Clipper and blade care

Hi!
I have a pair of 3000c clippers which I bought just over a year ago. I am really working them hard, using them to shear about 40 sheep a year. I have about gotten my nerve up to move on to the shearing head. I am very pleased with the clippers but didn't find the booklet that came with them to have enough info in it. Basically it talks about oiling them but that's about all there is in it about "care and feeding". In a search of the archives I found a reference to cleaning the filter. How do you do this, please? Also where I live it is extrememly humid. I have trouble keeping the blades from rusting. I bought one of your blade boxes and put them in there completely covered in oil but they still rust. I figure I must not be cleaning them properly. How do I clean them and with what?

<grin> 40 sheep a year is easy work for the 3000 series! Switching to the shearing head will allow you to go a bit faster though...

The filter is on the top and bottom of the clipper; close to the end where the cord comes out. It is actually a metal screen. Remove the screw and then clean the piece of screen.

It sounds like you are not getting your blades thoroughly dry after you clean them. Make sure every bit of water is wiped off before you oil them down to store. The oil will not remove the water; just seal it (in as well as out).

I don't use water to clean the blades I use "Oster Blade Wash" is this maybe why they rust and should I change to water?

Since I last posted I have started to have trouble with the on/off switch. It goes off fine but seems to jam (some times but not always) pushing it back on. It "feels" like something is physically stopping it from moving. It's not a matter of it being hard to move, it just will not move. So far going off and on several times is working (but frustrating) but it is taking more and more of this to turn them back on.

Thanks again for your help.

I'm not sure what ingredients the Blade Wash has, but we have found that the dish soap works the best. The most important thing regarding rust avoidance is to thoroughly dry and then oil the blades before you store them.

Please send your machine in so we can look at the switch for you. We will repair it under warranty. Make sure your name/address is in the box and the reason ("off/on switch not working") you are sending it in...
