I have been having problems within the past year with my sheep getting what we think are cysts. Some are hard and others are soft. When we cut them open there is usually a lot of puss and a big long piece of hard stuff, it kind of looks like worm, but it isn't. As soon as one goes away, then they get another one. Is there something in the environment that gives them cysts, or is it genetics? I don't think it can be genetics because I have ewes out of three different flocks and at least all of them have had a cyst. Are they contagious? Also, is it ok to cut them open when there are lambs around or should I wait until they are weaned to try to get rid of the cysts? please help asap
