We had a lamb with a bad compound fracture. I put her down. However, I have since learned some people fix breaks.
One method I heard of is using plaster of paris wrap to make a cast. As things would have it, another lamb seems to have gotten stepped on and has what I would call a strain, but not a break. The foot doubles over and she was in pain. So, went to hobby store, got the supplies, and made the cast on her so her foot would hold up straight. Kept her in overnight so the plaster would dry good, then put her back out. She seems to be doing fine. Not sure how long I'll keep the cast on.
So what do you do with breaks? If you cast, do you have any tips? Do you keep them separated for any length of time? How long do you keep the cast on?
What do you do with compounds? I guess stick the bone back in the skin and try to cast. What about infections?
Thanks for any information,
Jeff.
