Newbie Sheep Grazing Question

We're new to sheep and other livestock in general. We're grazing our 5 Dorset Ewes out on our pastures with sections of Electronet and that's working well. What we've noticed is that the ewes will eat a section all the way to the ground (well, about 1 inch tops), no matter how high the grasses are. Here in Colorado most of our grasses are natives, lots of buffalo grasses and some cool season grass. We're not putting them out unless the grass is at least 8 inches high, but they still eat 12" high grass down to the ground before moving to other grass, no matter how much surplus they have.

My wife is concerned that we're doing something wrong, but I've noticed that now with the rains and sun that the area's we've grazed are growing in just fine or better than before. So the question is if we've got a problem or not I guess.

Thanks for your help.

Ranbir

If you want the sheep to eat your pasture more evenly then you need to
put them into a smaller paddock and move them more often.
