escaping goats

Hi,
I am writing out of desperation because I cannot keep my pet goats contained! I have a 4' tall mixed chain link and 2 X 4" (rectangular openings) 4' tall wire fencing with metal "t" posts. I thought the goats were climbing the wire fence, but this weekend I observed that they have now grown tall enough (nubians) that they simply jump over it! I buried my fence posts so that they only stick out of the ground 4', so I have no space at the top to run higher barbed wire. Do you guys have any kind of electric netting, lines, or other product that I could run connected to the fence I already have? I noticed that they do put their front hooves on the top line before they go over, so it would probably deter them if that part was electric. I am fencing about 3 acres, so the cheaper the idea, the better! I just don't know about running electric in front of (and attached to?) wire - will that ground out the type you have? Also, many yards of this fence run through forest where limbs touch - would this ground out the electric net? I really appreciate your ideas and help with this. Please feel free to write me at this addres. Thanks! Cara
P.S. I also emailed your company directly before I found this bulletin board.

It is very common to install a hot wire that is offset (5-6 inches inside the fence) from an existing fence. We have a variety of insulators you would either put on the posts or even attach directly to chain link. You would probably want to install it at nose height so they get shocked when the approach the fence.

Yes, branches/brush on the line would short it out. You would have to clear a path for the hot wire...

Great idea Janet, I never would have thought of placing the hotwire on the inside instead of the top! The nose height thing is something I wouldn't have thought of either. Thanks for taking time to help me out with this. I have a big project to go work on! Cara
