pregnant ewe

I have a ewe whose utters apprear to be starting to engorge. I weaned her lambs in mid April and put her out to pasture with a ram at that time. I understand that a ewe will sometimes cycle once shortly after weaning. So it is possible she could be pregnant. Is ther a way to tell short of expensive testing?

There is no way to tell without spending $$. She should answer this for you within 30 days.

Was her milk supply gone completely after you weaned her lambs, and put her out to pasture? Does her udder bag feel hard and lumpy, or her teats swelled beyond normal? If she was put out to a pasture with lush green grass, and was'nt fully dried up, she might have a slow progressing mastitis. If this is'nt the case and her udders keep enlarging, she probably is pregnant. Keep a close eye on her for problems such as pregnancy toxemia, or hypocalcemia(milk fever). These can be caused by lambing to soon again without some extra nutrition and too much stress on her.
