Ozark Fiber Fling

Ozark Fiber Fling 2017

November 3 – 4, 2017

Meramec Baptist Retreat Center, 243 Highway AA, Steelville, MO 65565

The Ozark Fiber Fling was established in 2010 in Steelville, MO when one of the event coordinators noticed that many residents in the region wanted to learn knitting, crochet, weaving, or spinning; skills which would allow them to create useful, meaningful items for themselves, for gifts, and to sell. Unfortunately, most classes teaching these skills could only be found at a distance and at considerable cost. Steelville, already home to a church camp with excellent facilities, reasonable fees, and ample availability proved an ideal central location which was both easy to get to and within the budget of most.

In the fall of 2010, the first Fiber Fling was organized, bringing in local residents and fiber artists to teach and learn from one another.  While the first year had a relatively small turnout; successful classes, low registration fees for both students and vendors, and word of mouth led to progressively larger crowds in the following years. In 2013, a website was created for the event, and the name was officially changed to The Ozark Fiber Fling.

The Ozark Fiber Fling strives to offer new, interesting, reasonably-priced classes commensurate with student interest and teacher availability.  Event coordinators are busy year-round reviewing class proposals, fine-tuning schedules, obtaining some of the country’s best instructors in fiber arts, and ensuring an overall smoothly run event.

We hope your experience at The Ozark Fiber Fling is educational, fun, and memorable!
