Soldier Hollow Classic Sheepdog Championship & Festival
JOIN US ON LABOR DAY WEEKEND, SEPT. 4, 5, 6 & 7, 2015, FOR THE WORLD’S FOREMOST ANNUAL SHEEPDOG CHAMPIONSHIP
Heber Valley in Park City, UT
You’re invited to the world’s most unusual, most intriguing, most fascinating and down-right fun canine event (need we say more). Each Labor Day Weekend competitors and their sheepdogs (border collies) come from around to world to Soldier Hollow’s Olympic Hillside to test themselves against Utah’s legendery Rocky Mountain range ewes. These sheep are very wary of anything with four legs and a tail. One wrong move and they’re likely to turn and fight or scatter and head for the scrub oak at the top of the hill (there are no fences to keep them in). But these are the world’s best dogs and it’s up to them to reassure the sheep that all will be well if they just fall into line and do what is needed. This all happens while listening to detailed instruction, via whistles and calls from their master up to 400 yards away down the mountainside. The winner is the dog who gets the job done and who does it well, taking care of his sheep with no unnecessary stress and no abuse.
The fun just starts on the competition hillside. Our food court boasts Utah’s best fair food! You’ll find over a dozen meal booths with each offering a different menu, plus dessert and snack booths. There’s also entertainment with a special focus on keeping our younger spectators entertained. Plan to spend a day (the average stay is 5 hours). Much of what is available on the website now is from our 2014 event, but it is representative of the variety that will be featured in 2015. As we get closer and start booking acts the site will be updated.
