We started shearing our suri alpacas with the Phantom comb and Spitfire cutter. It was tricky to get the cutter in place until I realized that the prongs that hold the cutter in place pivot, at first I though the cutter wouldn't fit. We have never sheared on our own before and were cautious, but thought the machine performed beautifully. Nice clean cuts. We sheared two animals with the same cutter and comb without any noticeable dulling. Glad we purchased this shears and decided to handle the task ourselves.

Great product,Great service,I ordered the 4000s and it was shipped to northern AB in 6 days.I had a professional shearer shear 2 sheep with it,he was impressed with the way it worked and it was still cool when he was done, not hot like one he used to shear with.Very good product for small flocks.I highly recommend it.

I was extremely frustrated at first. Since the instructions said the blade tension was "factory set" I tried to sheer without adjusting and it just wouldn't cut. Keep trying to cut and continue to tighten until you get great results. They finally went through the wool like butter. The blades can get very sticky with lanolin and hot. I put the blade tips in a bucket of water while the unit is running. It cleans and cools at the same time. Be sure to oil frequently if you use this cleaning method. You can't oil too much! Awesome product!

. Nice and light. The switch is kind of akward and in the way.Much nicer than my old showmasters. Hard to adjust at first but once you learn them you never go back

Bought my first pair of these in the spring and have used them to shear/clip over 500 head of cattle so far without any problems. To the people having problems with them i would recommend running your new blades over a sharpening wheel before using them, I know theyre new but it definately helps. Also i've found that when setting your tension if you start with a looser tension and try to clip a small area tightening the tension until it starts to clip it prevents you from over tightening right off hand and will help your blades last longer.

At first I found this clipper frustrating but once I got used to the sensitivity of the tension setting it worked really well. Clipped through the fiber like butter. 23 llamas done...only a couple of the neighbors llamas left to do. Appreciated that it was lighter, more quiet and didn't heat up like the other models I had used over the years.

I've been using the same set of shears for nearly 20 years: hot, heavy, noisy and too big to hold well. What a difference the 4000s makes! Cooler, quieter, lighter, easier to manage; my hand was not numb and tingly after! Note: I found much improvement when I readjusted the tension, despite being "factory set." I've always had good luck with Premier products. Thanks for making my life easier!

I was a bit hesitant in spending the money for the 4000s but I have to say, it was money well spent. This is a very professional piece of equipment!! The motor is strong, but very quiet and it is clear these are very well put together. I was afraid that with a few of the ewes having missed last falls shear, that this was going to be a nightmare. NOT AT ALL. The 4000s cut through like butter. They are light and stay very cool. A great shearing kit!!!

Bought the 4000s 13 T Shear Package . This is an excellent product and very user friendly for novices like us. Years ago we tried to shear our llamas with the 3000 and gave up after creating a walking chia pet. Decided to go for it again with the 4000s - Wow! The unit is quiet and light and cuts like a charm.Changing the combs and cutters is very easy. We were going to shear one llama a day but due to the speed and ease of the unit sheared all 4 at once. For our first time would give our cut a B+ grade .If we can do it any one can succeed with this unit. Happy Trails

Very fast arrival of the product and nice case - that's about the only nice thing I can honestly write about this item. The shears dulled almost instantly on one alpaca. Customer service said I had to wash and blowdry my animals - why don't you find a better product to sell (this is your top of the line and with a large herd, who has time)? I ended up having to send them back for refund and hire a pro - who used Heinschler sheers and whipped through the animals with NO problems as they were. Definitely no "WOW" here - sorry Premier.

This is my second set of Premier 4000 shears. I am a small operation shearer for camelids. They work well except the placement of the switch sometimes causes them to turn off when you cange your grip, or when plowing through a thick fleece. Only use the ceramic cutters, they are awesome! The only other problem is in the shipping. Because there was no option to order with the ceramic cutter and a case, I decided to order just the machine. The forks of the shear head were sticking through the side of the box when it arrived, but luckily they weren't damaged.

Amazing! I am new to sheep (Suffolks and Dorsets) and I purchased used shears from a local person. They would get hot and were very heavy. It was frustrating and when I went to a breeder's house she showed me her Premier shears and swore by them. She said don't let the price scare you they are with every penny. I agree!!! I received my Premier shears yesterday and went to it today. My ram looks amazing! They were light, ready to use, came with a great guide for beginners with all the FAQs that newbies have. They made shearing much more enjoyable and I look forward to showing this year! Thank you for this great product and all of your efforts in making it much easier to get involved wih sheep!

Worked perfect right out of the case. Used on my granddaughters 4 H lamb. Easy to handle and clean. It works perfect for someone just learning, light weight and the smaller hand grip helps.

I own alpacas and have some rescue alpaca's as well. Can't afford to have a shearing gal come out so I purchased the Premier 4000s package, plus a spacer. Works outstanding! Light weight, and quiet. I had used a 20T comb, but I would recommend the 13T. It cuts cleaner and faster. The 'pacas don't look as clean, but the savings paid for the clippers.

A great machine for somebody that can't afford a professional drop-down machine & hand piece. I am a hobby-flock shearer, and these shears do awesome. I started out using the Spirit comb because of my lack of experience. They bound up a little in more matted wool. Now that I have more experience, I have switched to the Apache comb and now nothing seems to stops these shears.
Don't be fooled by reviews that say they won't push through matted wool or fecal tags. If you don't adjust the tension properly or have the wrong blades, you'll have problems. Tensioning issues have nothing do with the shears, but with the operator... it takes some practice to get it down, and it is the same on all forked shears.

I bought these after my oster shearmasters gave up the ghost. I have a shearing business so I needed tough shears and these are awesome. I shear mainly alpacas and llamas these go though like butter. As with all new shears I had to a just the tension. I found it to very easy to work with and change blades. The part I love about them is the they're super light weight. The less stress on my shoulders the better.

Bought these for an event at our farm to demo sheep shearing. I had only worked with professional shears at the WA State Univ shearing school. I have Icelandic sheep and was not able to shear them with the 4000s shears. They locked up immediately or didn't cut (depending on the tension). I tried two different combs. Had three mechanical guys walk through the manual with me. I had an experienced shearer of Icelandics who had used the 3000 version of these shears try and they could not get the tension set correctly. Maybe I just got a bad set, but it was the weekend and no customer service available. I returned them and awaiting my refund to purchase hand shears and more of the fencing, which I love. Customer service has always been excellent.

Light weight and quiet, these shears are too expensive to "practice" shearing sheep; not for anyone that shears more than a couple of small sheep or goats. Won't cut wool that is matted or has manure tags. Replacing combs and blades requires a balancing act. Only use Premier blades - others won't work. Customer service will convince you to try them, then you have to prove you used them the correct way. A waste of money.
The Premier 4000s will accommodate all 3 and 4" combs and cutters with the exception of some of the older style Oster/Stewart cutters. We state on our website and in our catalogs that they do work with Lister Laser, Oster Shearmaster and Showmaster, Heiniger E2 and Andis LG, Aesulap Econom II. -- Premier

First time using a power shearer on dorpers and found that it could not cut through matted fleece. After 1.5 sheep I had to take it apart and clean out all the bits of wool and then it cut ok for another 1. Tedius to stop and clean it, but much easier on the hand than using a hand shear.

One of the best investments I've made. The shears are quiet and very easy to use. Was able to get everyone sheared and back out to pasture in much less time than previous years. Less stress on them and me! Very happy with this great little machine.

Wonderful shears. Lightweight, cool running, shears like a hot knife thru butter. I requested the blades mounted and adjusted and it sheared great, played with the tension a little. Did 7 sheep in no time. If I was still body clipping my horses, I'd have a clipper head in no time. Great product.

My first shearer and shearing experience. Unit came assembled and labeled that it was properly adjusted. After first attempt to use, it didn't seem to work well at all. I then reread instructions and reset the blade tension. It worked great after that cutting thru heavy, dirty wool. I was stumped on how to clean the cutters when thru for the day, but a quick call to customer service fixed that. Very good product and good customer support.
The care for storing blades, combs and cutters is in the manual provided with each machine. Can also find instructions under our Download Instructions/Charts and click on Clipping and Shearing Instructions on our website. Thank you. -- Premier

I am a new shepherd and as part of this activity decided to shear a newly acquired Cotswold ram. I called Premier to get some advice on what equipment to get. The service was great, the equipment arrived ready to go and worked excellently. I did have a small 3 inch mishap on a back leg that required sutures but I feel that was due to my technique. I wish I had thought about getting the laminated instruction card when I ordered the clippers. Thanks.

This newer model works pretty good and has a little more power than previous models. However, unlike previous models, only Premier's blades will fit - a very selfish change.

As a first time shearer all I can say is WOW! They came ready to use right out of the box. We have hair sheep and used it to shear off the rug that is sometimes left. On some of the sheep, the rug was extremely matted, but once I was able to get underneath the matt the clippers did the job in record time. Very easy to use, even for a novice, and did a great job even on the most matted wool.

I have had a terrible time trying to get mine to work correctly. They were suppose to be set and ready to shear when I got them, they weren't. The first night we tried to shear we were unable to get them to work at all. The next day I called Premier & they walked me through setting the comb & cutter. That night we were able to shear 1/2 to 1 1/2 animals before they were so fire hot & would shut off! When they do work they are awesome but we haven't had any luck with them. Premier wants me to send them back to them at my expense & they will check them over. They have been very kind but I don't think the customer service is excellent. I paid to have the shears shipped overnight, they haven't worked right ever & now I'm expected to pay more freight to ship them back so they can look them over.
We pay $10 towards return shipping for our shears and clippers. I thought it indicated this on our website and in our catalogs but perhaps it doesn't. We do-whether it says so or not!
If they became hot, as you indicate, that suggests that the cutter tension was not set correctly. This is a common result for folks new to sheep shear heads (and regrettably all makes and models of shear heads the world over use the same frustrating tension system-a system that rewards the experienced and exasperates most others. We wish a different system existed but, to date, it does not).
I noted your comment that it did not arrive ready to use. I will talk to our assembly folks re. this. -- Premier

What can I say - AWESOME!!! I have hair sheep and when they don't shed completely, they need some clipping. WOW - less than 5 minutes per sheep (when they hold still...) and I was done. Smooth, easy, lightweight, and the sheep really appreciate getting rid of that extra coat in our south Texas summers!

I have been shearing for almost 20 years. I started with the oaster/stewarts, then moved up to the andis/heinigers for years. My first pair of premier's were the origional style, they were so light and easy to manuver however the old style shear head had some problems. I jumped on the new style clippers and what an improvement. The new head is much more reliable. The Andis have slightly more torqe, but they were huge, hard to hold onto for long periods of time and not as easy to manuver. The new Premier 4000's are the best all around hand held shear clipper on the market

Excellent product, light and easy to handle. ready to use. Highly recommend it. The only feature that would improve is the manual control of the cutter movement. Some models have this where the comb and the cutters can be checked. This makes setup a little easier.

I've used these to spring shear about 25-40 black face sheep a year. They're wonderful. Plenty of power, never get hot, and aren't tiring to use like the Oster Shearmasters. Plus I love that I can use a clipper head with them for slick shearing lambs too. I'll never use anything else.
