Kane Mineral Feeder
Product Details
Proven indoor/outdoor small grain, pellets, salt or mineral feeder for lambs, kids and show animals.
They've worked well both for Premier and our customers.
Common Uses
- For orphan lambs and kids. Their stomachs are not able to thrive (or survive) on hay and grass until they are 10 weeks old. It's too expensive to feed milk replacer so long. The solution is grain, pellets and soybean meal.
- For weaned lambs being pushed to catch the late spring markets.
- For show animals.
- For thin or sick breeding animals requiring special attention.
- For salt or mineral—should be available free choice year-round. These feeders are ideal for supplying loose salt and salt/mineral mixes indoors.

Don't waste your money on these cheap plastic feeders. I made the mistake of buying them and my goats had the mount torn off the back of the feeder in less than 12 hours.

After reading other reviews, I decided to go with this feeder. Best decision! It works great as our mineral feeder for our Nigerian goats! They frequent the feeder and ease of access is a plus. Ended up buying two. I did have to put an extra screw at the top so the pigs wouldn’t bump it up and off of the hanger device that’s preinstalled. Easy to clean as well. What I like about it the most is the size. It was hard to find one that wasn’t so big. Perfect for small to medium size goats! Will buy more to use for baking soda.

I should have looked closely at the dimensions, because I was sadly surprised when I saw how small this thing is. And the clever-appearing wall mount lasts about 5 seconds when more than one small lamb is trying to eat out of the small openings. I read the reviews where people talked about extra securing, and frankly I didn't want that, I wanted a product that would be immediately usable without further fussing. But aside from that, it's just too small. It happens I may be able to use it to feed fowl, but really, I just want to return it.

We bought two of these mineral feeders to feed our mill's loose salt and mineral blend to our flock of sheep, and they work great! My only reason for the four star rating rather than five is that the mounting system makes it too easy for the sheep to knock the feeder off the wall. This issue was easily remedied by placing a single screw into the board to which the feeder is mounted, just above the top of the feeder. With the screw in place, when sheep bump the feeder upwards, the feeder hits the screw and drops back into place. We usually fill it in place, simply pouring the loose salt/mineral from a bucket, but the feeder is easily removed for filling or cleaning by backing out the screw. I also really like the ability to adjust the flow of mineral by moving the small panel inside the feeder and holding it in the desired position by tightening the wing nut. Overall, a really good product!
