CERES GEN6 Smart Ear Tags for Cattle
Product Details
New! CERES GEN6 adds new breeding-focused monitoring (estrus detection, calving alerts and bull activity tracking) to proven location, health and pasture intake tracking.
Key Features:
- Estrus detection — Flags behavioral cues that mark the start of estrus in beef cattle, helping identify the best window for conception
- Calving alerts — Notifies you when a cow is calving so you can respond quickly if needed
- Pasture feed intake — Tracks grazing, resting, walking and rumination to help identify your most efficient animals
- Direct-to-satellite connectivity — Transmits data anywhere, without extra towers, cellular service or base stations
Important! A satellite data subscription (purchased separately through a software partner) is required to view tag data. This is a recurring cost, NOT included in the price of the tag. See details below.
Instructions/Diagrams:
How It Works
Each tag learns the animal’s normal activity pattern over time and compares new behavior against that baseline. A sudden spike in activity, from a predator, theft or another disturbance, triggers a high activity alert. Extended inactivity can also trigger an alert, since it may signal illness, a lost tag or mortality.
Data Collected:
- Reproduction — New in GEN6! Estrus detection in beef cattle and calving alerts
- Pasture feed intake (PFI) summary: Daily metrics on walking, grazing, resting and rumination (algorithm developed with CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency)
- Health and welfare: Signs of illness, stress or unusual behavior
- Location tracking: Individual animal movement
- Grazing patterns: Pasture use, land rotation and efficiency insights
- Biosecurity alerts: Early warning of potential disease or abnormal activity
- Performance insights: Animal behavior and efficiency

Common Questions
- How much does the software cost?
- The cost of each software platform varies. For the most accurate pricing, contact the software provider directly. Find CERES TAG’s fully integrated software partners here.
Premier 1 does not provide end user software. If you don’t already have a compatible software solution, please contact us for help.
- Can I remove a CERES tag?
- Yes, the CERES GEN6 devices can be removed and reapplied to another animal.
- Do I have to tag every animal?
- No. You can tag a portion of your cattle herd and still get useful location, behavior and welfare trends for the group as a whole. More tagged animals means more granular, animal-level data, so the right number depends on how much detail you need versus your budget.
- Satellite connectivity lasts 3 years. What happens then?
- The device reaches end of life and stops transmitting. At that point, it needs to be replaced.
