Tips
Precautions
Will not show direction of a fault within a roll of netting. It will indicate direction if used between two rolls of netting. Why? Netting ends twist all the conductors of the net. If used in the center, the device will not be able to indicate the direction of the leak because of these twists. It can be used to determine the net in which the fault is located.

So far it’s been really helpful. Especially since I have a convoluted electric fencing branching off in multiple directions. Probably should have gotten a fault finder sooner.

Definitely better than the types requiring a grounding tether, especially with our location being arid with hard ground in many places!
It’s not the golden ticket that I was hoping for, but I suppose I was hoping it would more quickly pinpoint the fault location. Maybe that’s me learning to use it better.
I do have multiple strands running, so that complicates it a little bit, too. The directional arrow does indicate correctly the direction of the fault, as long as you can think through what’s happening with multiple strands if there’s a fault on more than one strand. And the pictures on the directions provide some help on that front.
The directions could be more clear on which contact point to use on the tester. The rod sticking out the top can be used for testing the energizer itself or to test the voltage only of the strands, and the contact point under the plastic lip seems to be the one to use for measuring amps also, which is what you need for the fault-finding feature. I don’t know how the two contact points make a difference, but that seems to be how it works.
It’d be nice to have a storage case, especially at this price point, but hopefully it will hold up well for years of use. I certainly don’t want to buy new ones every year!
So far, I would recommend it, even if only for not needing a ground tether, which is a huge time-saver in itself. Feels well built.
FYI, the model I received is the full red one (not yellow and red).

It works great once you learn to use it. It is nice that you don’t have to have a ground probe and gives you the ability to find those sneaky ground bleeds so you don’t walk miles and miles, when you miss it. The only drawback is the cost. But if it lasts it will be worth it.

Works well. Lots of fencing on our place so needed a second one for my wife.

Works great. As intended. Same as all the other reviews state.
