Refill without removing the lid!
Customers love our Heated Poultry Waterer, but they don’t love fiddling with the lid when it’s really cold. (We don’t either!)So we’ve added a hinged quick-fill cap. It’s just the right size for a garden hose or watering can. With a glance you can also check the water level. Quick-fill lid fits all Heated Poultry Waterers sold since 2019.
For folks that don’t need to worry about frozen water, look to the 3-Season Poultry Waterer. It’s a reliable top-fill waterer with many of the best-in-class features found in our heated version.

How to Use
The detachable cord can be stowed separately during warmer months.
The electrical plug cap (used during summer months) fits over a nub on the bottom of the bucket.
Nipples should be placed just above the birds’ heads. The birds should stretch up slightly to drink.
A few tricks for dealing with stubborn birds:
- Remove all other sources of water. Place the new nipple waterer in the old waterer’s location.
- Bring a bird’s beak directly to the nipple waterer and flick the nipple. You may have to activate the nipple with the bird’s beak to demonstrate the new water source. (See video above.)
- Place a sunflower seed in the drip trough. When the bird pecks at the seed, it will discover the new water source.
- Use a red laser pointer to direct chickens to the nipple. Similar to house cats, our chickens will chase and follow the red light. (This was inadvertently discovered by our photo dept and is now our go-to method for getting camera-shy birds to cooperate.)
You don’t have to train every bird in the flock. Just a few will do. Once the first chickens begin drinking, others will follow.
Precautions
Warning: Risk of electrical shock—Connect only to a branch circuit protected by a ground-fault circuit-interrupter (GFCI). Contact a qualified electrician if you cannot verify that the circuit is protected by a GFCI.
Troubleshooting
Not all of the water from the drinker will end up in the bird. Chickens are messy drinkers. Bored chickens may also peck at the nipple even when not seeking water. Over time, this may result in moisture build-up under the nipple. In freezing coops, icicles may form. As long as the water at the nipple remains unfrozen, birds will have a source of water.
Replacement cords must be matched to the type of receptacle found on the base of the bucket. They are NOT interchangeable.
When connecting the detachable cord to the base, make sure the alignment notch slides easily into the groove on the bucket’s receptacle. (See photo below.) Unfortunately, it’s easier than we’d like to misalign the prongs. The result is a non-functioning unit until it’s aligned correctly.

I like the Premier Heated Waterer. It holds enough water to take care of my chickens for a day or so and it keeps the water clean when the chickens are scratching on the floor of the building. I think it is great.
Richard B from Minnesota
I purchased the heated poultry waterer right before the deep freeze in Minnesota. This week’s temps got down to -30° air temp and -15° in the coop. Waterer did not freeze up at all.
Paula N from Massachusetts
I love this and it worked well in the recent frigid temps. The nipples did freeze but simply moving the device out of direct wind (literally 2 feet) solved the problem.
Candace W from Missouri
I’m very happy with the product. It provides water, clean clean water. With large bucket opening, it’s easy to fill. No inverting, no leaky gaskets, no open trays collecting dirt, no flimsy handle to break of. This is a quality product and looks like it will last a long time.
• This has a good quality power cord, which has remained pliable even in -8°. The cord does not get stiff in cold temperatures.
• Font has an long cord, plenty long enough go from the floor to most ceilings.
• The cord is detachable, enabling year round use if desired.
• The power cord has a push in plug with screw-on ring. The power cord is not going to accidentally fall off this font.
• The cord is hard to manage if hung. The plug is on the side with a vertical orientation. This is fine if the font is on the floor or an elevated surface, with the power cord taken horizontally to the power source. I have my fonts hanging. My arrangement doesn’t allow me to hang the fonts near a wall. Since I don’t want the cord on the floor, I’ve taken the cord up the hang chain. The power cord comes off the font horizontally then bends up vertically following the hang chain then along the ceiling to the power source. This results in a loop in the power cord at font level. So far no birds have tried to roost in that loop.
• This font is heavier than expected, due to both quality of materials and how thick it is for insulation.
• Font can be set on a flat surface or hung. The handle has a notch in it for hanging to ensure cord stays centered on the handle.
• Water has remained unfrozen with them hung inside the coop near open windows and open pop door with temps as low as -2°, and with windows and pop doors closed at temps as low as -8°.
• Chickens, previously accustomed to vertical nipples, took to these horizontal nipples immediately.
• The lid is tight. It flicks on with a twist of the wrist, but not so easy to untwist. However, once I started using is, with the weight of some water in it, I set it on the ground, hold it between my feet, and it’s much easier to get off than when it’s empty.
• The lid freezes in place. I have them hung. The chickens are bumping them, causing water to slosh inside. A tamp on the floor and around the lid worked at -2°, but at -8° I am not able to get the lids off. I can hear water inside and nipples are still flowing at -8°.
• The sides and lid are smooth. These look like they’ll be super easy to clean.
• There is nothing to grip to hold the fonts to make removing the lids easier. I’ve got to try to hold the font in place with my feet.
• With the lid fitting so tight, and sometimes freezing, and nothing to hold onto to unscrew the lid except the handle, I’m worried the handle will eventually break off.
• Having a screw on ring for the power cord, unplugging the font to carry it to the water source is a bit of a chore, especially with cold fingers. Easy solution is to use a bucket to bring water to the font.

I searched the web for a long time trying to decide which water container would be the Very Best for the Extremely Cold temps of Northwest Ohio in the winter. After reading tons of reviews and comparing notes with My daughter in law I decided on this one. Today is the night test, the temps are currently -2 and expecting -12, the wind chill is -36. I am pleased to say that all nipples are currently flowing without any problem! I bought 2 and they both are hanging in the run with 2 bails of straw on the north side of them to provide at least some wind block. I would definitely Recommend this product to everyone! Totally pleased. My girls will have fresh water available even in the extreme temps! :)
