Product description did not mention heater would not be enough in cold barn.

I am giving this three stars for fire safety and the economy of use, in terms of electrical. I found that my chicks stayed under it way too much. I could not watch them. I ended up adding a heat lamp at the other end of the brooder, so they would run around, eat and drink. At night, you still need a little lamp with a red bulb, so they don’t pile tightly together, out of fear of darkness. This heater will do well when I put them out in their coop, as I won’t have to worry about fire. If the power went off, I could run it on a small amount of solar.

Just purchased 2 of the large heating plates. We already own 2 and love them! We feel they are much easier on the electric bill, safer, and the chicks seem to do well with the ability to completely leave the heat if they want. We like the ease of adjustment with the legs as well. Sturdy product, well worth the cost.

I bought both medium and large heating plates as we don't always need such a large plate. We’re currently using the medium for 20 new layers and there’s still plenty of room even at 3 weeks old. The cover is a must, the entire unit is clean. Also the much lower energy use over heat lamps is something that I think is overlooked. These will pay for themselves over time!
