Great book! Many helpful hints.
Dr. Kennedy’s discussion of the role of Vitamin E preventing and treating white muscle disease has applications beyond just sheep and goats. Same for his discussion of sodium bicarbonate in high grain rations. I still use his treatment protocol for sheep mastitis.
Dr. Kennedy saw the world in black and white and as such I have minor points of disagreement. First one being his fervent belief that there is never a need for an 8-way clostridial vaccine in sheep. There have been a few cases of Clostridium sordelli reported in sheep, not common but has happened.
The other one being his equally fervent belief that you can’t successfully raise bottle lambs on cow’s milk. I grew up raising sheep on my parents’ dairy farm. We successfully raised dozens of bottle lambs on cow’s milk. In fact, we never experienced enterotoxemia in bottle lambs until we got out of the dairy business and started using lamb milk replacer. We went back to using cow’s milk despite the expense of purchasing it at the grocery store.
None-the-less I consider this to be a great book by a great veterinarian and great human being. He didn’t know me from Adam when as a rookie veterinarian I called asking for advice on sheep mastitis. He took the time and carefully explained his treatment protocol as if I was the most important person on earth. I think this book will be very helpful to sheep and goat producers as well as mixed animal veterinarians like me who need practical solutions for the problems presented with sheep and goat medicine.

Not what I expected. It’s not really a book, more like a compilation of blog posts. It is organized by topics but doesn’t go into the kind of detail that I expected from a animal veterinarian guide for owners.
