We needed another one of these 15 lb Saturn feeders for another flock of chickens in separate area. We have several of the smaller 3 lb Saturn feeders as well. We have used this style for many years. The design works well to keep feed “INSIDE” the feeder, rather than allowing the bird to push it out and waste feed.

I bought this feeder as a “graduation” feeder for my chicks from the little upright quart style feeder for when they’re still in the brooder but prior to them headed out to the coop. I thought 3-lbs would be a nice size where I wasn’t filling it daily, but it also wasn’t eating up a ton of space in the brooder. To be fair, the 3-lb size is perfect for that, it fit my needs in terms of size and amount of feed. However, because I’m feeding a mash style chick feed, it doesn’t want to auto fill or gravity feed like this is intended to. I have to go into the brooder daily and give it a little shake/twist to fill up the bottom tray. No big deal, but thought it would be worth noting for other potential buyers. Although, I’m not sure any feeder really works overly well with a chick style feed.

I just read through the reviews and I’m amazed that so many people like this feeder. I’ve had the 15 lb. feeder for a few years and think it’s the worst feeder I’ve ever used. If there’s any dampness in the air the feed clogs at the bottom and won’t sift through. It’s impossible to stick your hand through the small top opening to reach the bottom to clear the hardened feed. I constantly have to shake it to get feed to sift though to the tray. It is so frustrating and needs constant attention.

I have been using these chicken feeders for years. There is no spillage on the ground and they are so easy to clean. My chickens love them. They work great with both pellets or crumble food. Just hang, fill and you are good to go.

Great feeders! No wasted feed and easy to hang. I think I have 7 of them.
