How to Use
Mixing directions:
Dry powder should be weighed to determine recommended amount. Measuring cup in each bag holds approximately 4 oz. dry powder. For best mixability, whisk powder with hot water (125°-135°F). Do not exceed 140°F. If the water is too hot you will damage the milk proteins (Maillard chemical reaction), which are essential to lamb and goat kid performance.
- Lambs:
- Mix 4 oz. of dry powder with 1 pint (16 oz.) of water.
- Goat Kids:
- Mix 4 oz. of dry powder with 1-1/2 pints (24 oz.) of water.
Thoroughly mix until dry powder has been dissolved into a smooth solution.
Feeding directions:
- Hand feeding—For newborns, feed smaller amounts more frequently (up to 6 times per day). Gradually reduce the number of feedings as the animal gets older. Allow milk to cool to 100°F (or less) before feeding. Use a stomach tube to ensure adequate consumption in struggling lambs. Don’t underfeed.
- Free choice—feed at 40°F to prevent overconsumption.
- Automatic feeding systems—follow manufacturer’s directions.
Tips
Premier’s Suggested Orphan Feeding Program
Always keep lambs and goat kids in a well-ventilated, draft free area.- For newborns, feed colostrum or colostrum replacement using a Pritchard Teat with a Lamb 'N' Kid Feeding Bottle for first 18 hours. Then change from colostrum to warm milk replacer. Wash feeding bottle thoroughly after each use.
- After a day switch to latex nipples in bucket teat units. As soon as lambs learn to nurse, switch from warm milk to cold milk. Offer ad lib.
- Day 5. Offer dry creep feed in a feeder. Place a heat lamp (a 175-watt heat bulb is enough) over the feeder 24/7 to encourage lambs to eat.
- After 8-10 days, switch from latex to rubber teats. Why? Because older lambs may have sharp teeth (which could be the reason a ewe rejected them) that can rapidly damage the softer latex teats.
- By the 5th week (or 25 lbs weight), wean by offering only water and dry feed. Tough love saves milk replacer $$.
Shepherd’s Choice™ Management Tip
Lambs and kids reared as orphans are at very high risk for Clostridium Perfringens type C. This is because orphan animals often do not receive adequate antibody containing colostrum from their dams.It is recommended to vaccinate lambs/kids every other week, or weekly depending on the history of the flock. In practice, the lamb gets its first dose when it goes onto milk replacer and then (for example) every Monday or every other Monday it receives a booster. Consult with your veterinarian to determine the best course of action.

The very best lamb milk replace I have ever fed. As always, Premier delivered this fast and at less than the cost of everyone else. I know I can trust Premier products.

For various reasons I have 7 bottles babies this year. I like the 45lb box. I probably should have ordered a pallet of the bags, but am ordering one or two at a time (don’t really have space for a pallet of them). All are thriving on the replacer. Was kind of overfeeding them, but had no issues other than them getting fat.
It mixes well, no lumps. Box it comes in doubles as a cat scratch while I am not using it.

I appreciate the 45 lb bags. We used this product last year and this year we have a bunch of bottle lambs for different reasons and needed the big bag. They drink it down with no issues and are growing good.
