Spiraled Chestnut Crook
Product Details
Single piece of beautiful chestnut wood that has been bent, flamed and twice turned to create a unique double spiral design. Modeled after a German walking stick called "Ziegenhainer", which was traditionally shaped by wrapping a honeysuckle root around the branch of a cornel cherry tree.
Finished with a nickle-plated ferrule at the bottom, this crook is approximately 54 inches tall. Each piece is created by hand, which guarantees a unique and beautiful product.

The Craftsman
In 1868, in the small community of Lindewerra, Germany, an unassuming man named Johannes began producing walking sticks as supplemental income. It was his son, Louis, who took production to a new level—by developing new styles, tools and techniques.
During the volatile post-WWII years, the business was moved from Lindewerra (in East Germany) across the border to Bad Sooden-Allendorf (West Germany). By the 1970s, over 600,000 sticks were produced annually. As production and facilities grew, the business expanded into orthopedic walking aids.
Today, the same family now employs over 40 craftsmen in two production facilities. Their focus remains on classic walking sticks, natural canes and hunting sticks. Alloy and carbon poles have also been added to their product offering. Although they are outfitted with modern and efficient equipment, many of wooden sticks are crafted the same way they were in 1868—by careful hands, vintage tools, and unparalleled skill.

Very sturdy in spite of being lightweight. Bought to be used as props for Christmas, but the kids using them, who have sheep and goats, think they would work in real life, possibly need to soak the tops to expand them a bit. Really like how the are carved—very artistic.

This is a beautiful piece of work. I’m using it as a hiking stick. But I can see that the bottom could be trimmed off so that it would be usable as a cane.

This was purchased as a gift for a pastoral transition. The crook was packaged well, arrived timely, and is beautiful — perfect for our intended purpose. My only critique is the position and light (stand out) coloring of the Premier 1 logo — right at the top of the staff. This sentiment was shared in other reviews. We darkened the logo so it would not show prominently. I'm not opposed to a logo, but for an award or presentation use, it is too prominent. I would relocate or stain darker as an accent.

Apparently I’m going to be using a cane more and more frequently in my ‘golden’ years. Those metal sticks are so ugly! I’ve been looking for something distinctly beautiful and I found it on your website. Once I cut 18 inches off the bottom and put a rubber foot on, I’ll have a cane to be proud of!

I have used several different designs of these crooks when herding with my dogs, especially tending, and they work extremely well. Do not try to block a sheep with them although electrical tape fixed the split. For directing my dog and leaning on it works great. I am not catching sheep. We use them for prizes at herding trials and they are very popular.
