I graze a handful of Jerseys and this year have adapted the grazing paddocks (formerly with pigtail posts) to plastic posts in order to accommodate a double strand of polywire for sheep who are now grazing with the cows.
I ordered 3 different types: Gallagher, O’Brien, and Premier. The Gallagher, while good quality, were much thicker, which meant I could carry fewer of them in my hand. (My paddocks are small and I walk them to set up.) The O’Brien and Premier were about the same diameter and smaller than the Gallagher, but O’Brien was definitely not as nice as Premier. The ‘prongs’ that hold the polywire had tags on the end of them, as if when the plastic came out of the mold it didn’t come out with a nice rounded edge. The Premier felt of better quality material and the ‘barbs’ that hold the wire were thicker and smooth on the ends, which makes slipping the wire out when reeling up much easier! The barbs are at a good angle and I have not had any issues with polywire falling out of them. In addition, the footplate is positioned in a sensible place, making stringing the polywire easy. The Gallagher post barbs are somehow at a weird angle to the post and footplate, which means I have to step on it with my toe to get it in the ground at the right angle for stringing the polywire rather than with the side of my foot. Very weird and awkward, especially mid-summer when the ground is harder.
Kudos to Premier for a superb product!

I have a small flock of sheep and do rotational grazing, moving paddocks every other day. These posts make great line posts for holding up polywire fences. They are light weight, easy to step into the ground, and they don’t tangle up as you carry them. The plastic is strong and a little bit bendy, enabling them to flex as needed instead of breaking in a brittle way like cheaper farmstore posts do.
As corner posts they do okay, but flex a bit more than I like, and I don’t have another type of post that I can easily use as a brace with these, so I’m currently using a fiberglass post braced with a pigtail post for corners. Given their price advantage and similarity to O’Brien step-in posts, I’m very happy with my purchase.

Only gave 4 stars since I haven’t used these for very long. Before purchasing I looked for a review that compared these posts to the original O’Brien step in posts but couldn’t find one so here it is… These posts are bigger in diameter than O’Brien. The spikes on these are bigger in diameter. Filing the end of them to a point is a must for drought pastures. The foot-step is the exact same size on these as on the O’Brien. The poly wire slots are the exact same height and quantity as O’Briens. The two posts are definitely made of the same quality material, so this isn’t your typical Tractor Supply post that get brittle. Overall, a high quality alternative to the original O’Brien step in post if you don’t mind a little more bulky post, and a little bigger diameter spike.

I felt bad to give no stars. These posts are very weak. You can’t put very much tension on the poly wire without the post collapsing into itself. Also, the metal stake portion has come out of several of these posts. I expected to see some glue residue, or better yet some barbs, but nope. They simply should a metal piece into to the hole while the plastic is still hot and call it a day.

These step-in posts are so easy to use and sturdy enough for what we need for rotational grazing sheep. I like that they have multiple clips, so I can choose what heights work best.
