Tips
To reduce “bridging” and “rat-holing”, use a coarsely ground feed to maintain proper flow. Feeds with too many fines may bind up in humid climates.
We prefer coarse cracked, crumble or pelleted type feeds. Our hens will pick their preferred pieces from feeds with a high proportion of fines and waste the rest.
If you find excessive waste, consider changing the feed type, or raising the feeder (making it more difficult to scoop out feed).

Love this feeder! The only problem we have with it is that we could use another! With our current population we fill it every 2–3 days, but once we drop our rooster population it will really cut out hours of feeding time every week, so we can spend more time watching them run around chasing bugs!

This is an initial review, I’ve not tested it for durability. Initially I like it, top is easy to operate, haven’t had any moisture issues with the feed caking up or even any moisture collection in the bottom feed area. I didn’t purchase the extra rain shield, going to try it for a while without it. So far so good.

An excellent feeder. I use it for ringneck pheasant. They love it and so far I fill only once a week and it lasts.

Absolutely LOVE THIS feeder! We have 23 chickens of mixed breeds and some are big birds and some are bantams and it’s the perfect height for both. Between filling it I check it every 3 days and still has tons of feed in it without having to fill it again but I still do fill it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this feeder. By far the best feeder I have found and use. I have been raising chickens and ducks for over 10 years now. Will buy this again should I need to!

I’m updating my previous review [from October 2021]. I did like this feeder when I first received it because it was very easy to fill and held a lot of feed. HOWEVER, there is nothing to cover the feed tray on the bottom of the feeder. Chickens just spill the food out EVERYWHERE. 50lbs of feed out of the feeder in 1 day. They just kept wasting feed like it was their job out of this feeder. I contacted customer service which replied that they were aware of the problem and told me to make my own modifications to it to keep the food contained. I did not spend $75 dollars for a feeder that I would then need to modify. I wish I had not waited to open these feeders until after the 30 day return policy had elapsed. Now I’m stuck with 5 of these and I can’t use them. I would waste a 50lb bag of feed per day in each feeder. So much for the “we stand by these products because we use them ourselves” guarantee.
If feeding a multi-grain mix, birds may be searching for their favorite (e.g. cracked corn). Changing feeds to a coarse or pellet feed may help reduce waste.
