Length—How to choose?
The shape and length of the handles help determine the hand strength required to squeeze the trimmer. Maximum leverage isn’t always desired; many shepherds prefer comfortable trimmers that fit their hands for all day use.- Longer blades may reduce the # of overall cuts needed; blades longer than 2" can clear most hooves with one cut
- Shorter blades are better for precision work

I no longer have sheep, but I have found that these ARS hoof trimmers have tremendous strength and are the best pruners for my blueberry bushes! They get into small places and have greater durability than regular gardening clips of the same style. I bought these for another gardener as a present.

These are the best hoof trimmers I have ever used. Easy to handle and they stay sharp!

First time I’ve used this trimmer and boy, how nice it is! Fits my small hand just right and is so easy to cut with! I like the blunt ends as I’ve always punctured myself in the past using a trimmer with sharp ends. This one is great! Thank you, Gordon, for recommending this product. I love Premier 1!

These are the best hoof trimmers I have ever purchased. They are more expensive than most hoof trimmers but they are strong and last a long time. I purchase a new pair once a year and retire a pair that I have had for a while. I own around 7 pair at this time. When I have used them to the point of them not being sharp anymore, I sent the lot of them off to be sharpened. They do rust, so don’t leave them in the barn. Take them inside in a dry environment.

The serrated trimmers are more expensive of course and cannot be resharpened. However, they are excellent for tough hooves, therefore better for my sheep and goats, and actually last a long time even given the fact that they cannot be sharpened.
