Drive Caps for SmoothCote™ FiberRod
Product Details
Use nylon drive caps to protect the top of a fiberglass rod from splintering during installation.
Drive caps are compatible with:
Nylon drive caps will through years of use and many posts. We recommend approximately 1 cap for every 20 posts installed.
Specs
- 2" long
- Nylon plastic
- 20 per package, but sold individually
Installation
- Place the drive cap on top of FiberRod
- Drive into the ground with a rubber mallet or steel hammer
- Take the drive cap off of the FiberRod and continue with additional posts
Precautions
We do not recommend leaving drive caps on the top of posts.

The cap is handy if soil is firm, it is simple to use; place it on the post and tap. Around my orchard the soil is usually soft enough to just push the post in a few inches, but I also carry a cap and have a small hammer nearby for the hard spots.

Driving cap is fine if you only have one post to drive but it is not strong enough for multiple posts. I drove one post into sand, about 24" deep and had to hammer the cap off of the end of the post. It will not come off of the second post. It is better than having a splintered post but order one for each post you’re driving. I only purchased one cap for 10 posts. Reordering more to complete the job.

I like the thickness and durability of the 3/8" size.

Very handy. Preference for high visibility color instead of black which could be spotted in the field. I taped mine to be able to more easily spot.

Excellent for driving the temporary posts into the ground. However, I purchased one for each post but learned they did not fit the 11/16" posts snuggly so I really only needed one or two to accomplish the task at hand.
