This complete fence system can be used to keep in sheep, goats and cattle while keeping out coyotes and foxes. Also used to keep bear away from beehives. 48" tall.

Choose this starter kit if you plan to move the fence daily or weekly.

Identical to ElectroFence® except line posts are every 6'8" instead of 12.5'. Much less prone to sag; more resistance to wind, ice. However, extra posts make the netting heavier—so we shortened the roll length to 100' long.

Starter Kit includes:

  • (2) 100 ft rolls of 48" ElectroFence® Plus electric netting
  • (4) 48" FiberTuff™ support posts
  • Premier PRS Pro 100 solar fence energizer
  • (2) T Ground Rods, 18"
  • Fence & Battery Digital Tester

Benefits

Starter kit contains all the essentials to fence in sheep, goats and suitable for cattle, protecting them from coyotes and foxes. Can also be used to keep bear away from beehives.

Netting is quick and simple to move. Even for new users, it takes less than 10 minutes to go from out-of-the-box netting to installed fence.

Common Uses

  • Sites with installation problems for permanent fences
  • As a boundary fence for gardens and orchards
  • Boundary fences on leased land. Easy to remove when leases end
  • Interim boundary fence until a permanent fence is installed
  • To protect hay or grain supplies
  • Sites with soils that shift due to frost or water-table changes
  • In areas with curves, ups/downs or corners

Specs

Starter Kit includes:

ElectroFence® Plus 11/48/12
(2) 100 ft length, 48" tall electrifiable prefabricated fence. It arrives at your door as a complete roll with the double spike posts already built into the mesh/fence. Features 11 horizontals strands (10 electrified) with vertical struts placed every 12". “Plus” nets include additional line posts spaced every 6'8" to reduce sag.
FiberTuff™ Posts
(4) fiberglass-reinforced support posts for ends, corners and major directional changes. Use at ends to help maintain tension on the fence.
Premier PRS Pro 100
Solar powered 1.0 joule fence energizer. Will electrify 5-7 rolls of electric netting depending on soil conditions and vegetation. Includes two 12V 12Ah sealed lead acid batteries, wiring harness with alligator clips and 15 watt monocrystalline solar panel with overcharge regulator.
T Ground Rod
(2) Ground rods, which are an essential component of any electric fence, guide the pulse from the soil, back into the energizer. This 18" ground rod features a unique T handle, which makes it easier to grip when removing from soil.
Fence & Battery Digital Tester
For testing fence voltage and 12V battery voltage. At the end of the net, the voltage should measure at least 3,000V. Premier’s fence troubleshooting guide may help solve common problems.

Installation

Ensure the net is at least 2" away from anything metal (e.g. T-posts, existing wire fences, spikes on support posts, etc.)

Consult the linked products or watch the videos above for installation instructions.

Tips

(2) 100' rolls of netting creates a 50' x 50' enclosure. Add additional rolls to create larger paddocks. At each end of the net is a built-in, stainless-steel male/female clip. Slide these clips together to make a connection.

An electric fence does NOT have to make a circle. You can overlap the fences or make a U-turn.

Visit this link for answers to other common fencing questions.

How to Manage Excess Netting
“I’ve set up my fence but there’s more than I need. What do I do?” This video demonstrates our preferred methods of working with excess netting.

Precautions

Electric fence is a pain barrier, not a physical barrier. A common mistake is not electrifying it. Animals may escape or become entangled (and may die). On a % basis, entanglement is very rare, but it can and does occur. If animals are scared or starved it will not keep them in. The first time you put the animals in the net, you should be available to watch them for a while. That way if one were to get into the fence and get caught, you can turn the power off and get them loose.

Netting must be moved when tall grass covers the lower “hot” strands. The alternative? Apply a strip of herbicide to kill vegetation.

Warning! Due to risk of fire, do NOT use continuous output energizers with electric netting or electro-plastic conductors such as rope, twine or tape. Use only with a low or wide impedance intermittent pulse energizer. (Fi-Shock™ brand energizers which are sold as low impedance, continuous current output should NOT be used with electric netting.) All energizers sold on Premier’s website use an intermittent pulse and are suitable for use with electric netting.

Dry conditions and wintertime usage may reduce the effectiveness of electric fencing. Ice and heavy snow can flatten netting and thereby damage it.

Dry or frozen ground may cause posts to bend or break if inserted with force. Pilot holes may be needed. We recommend using drivable or single spike posts in hard soils. Double spike posts provide more stability when the ground is soft.

Warranty

With proper care, electric netting should last 5-7 years. Replacements will be prorated.

3-year warranty for energizers and solar panels cover lightning damage and defective parts or workmanship. Should an energizer fail, we will replace the unit, bill you for the cost to do so, then reimburse you for warranted expenses after we have examined the failed unit. Misuse and flood damage are not covered.

30-day warranty for all batteries.

ElectroFence® Plus 11/48/12 Starter Kit

Rhod L from Tennessee

I’ve purchased two starter kits and with a total of 800 ft of fencing. It’s been running for a few months and I’m very happy with the products. Energizer stays running no matter the conditions. We have experienced hard rain and below freezing temperatures. So far no issues. Using it to keep in cattle and sheep. Rotation of fences especially with the amount we use does take time to set up. When by myself, it takes me an hour to two. With two people the time gets cut down to 30 mins to an hour. The fencing and PRS Pro 100 energizer are quality products.

I absolutely love this electric fencing set! It was my first experience with electric fencing, and it has been fantastic. The setup is straightforward, it’s relatively easy to move, and it’s proven 100% reliable. I haven’t needed the corner posts that come with it—they add some unnecessary cost, which is a bit of a downside. But the charger is outstanding—I’m thrilled it came with the IntelliShock 100, which powers both our sheep and horse fences at the same time effortlessly. Although I had a minor issue with another Premier 1 product, this set has completely restored my confidence in their equipment. I’ll definitely be purchasing more fencing and chargers from Premier 1 in the future.

About Conductivity

Conductivity measures the amount of electrical current a material can carry. The opposite measure is known as resistance.

Tinned Copper Superconductor

Many of Premier’s electric net fences feature a green and white superconductor that has both stainless steel and tinned copper filaments for optimal conductivity.

These “premium” nets are 10 times more conductive (38 ohms per 1000') than “basic” nets offered by our competitors. This enables the electric pulse to travel much farther and be less affected by weed contact.

Customers who are unhappy with netting are often those who’ve chosen nets from China or their farmstore equivalents.

Types of Line Posts

Line posts are built into the net. Three options are available.*

Line Posts Compared
  1. Single Spike (SS)
The best choice, unless your soils are always soft or very hard.
  2. Double Spike (DS)
Posts allow you to push in the spikes with your foot. When soil is hard or rocky, double spikes are more difficult to install and remove.
  3. Drivable Posts (DP)
Allows use of a mallet or dead blow hammer for installing posts in dry, hard or rocky soil. Features a “spike stop” for extra support and internal fiberglass ribs for added strength.

Tip: To insert a line post into frozen or hard soil, use a power tool to drill pilot holes.

* Not all fences have all line post options.

About Positive/Negative (Pos/Neg) Nets

Is your area dry?

Conventional electrified fence systems rely on soil moisture to be effective. However, not all areas have the required moisture.

Dry soil increases resistance—a weaker, less effective pulse occurs that does not deter animals.

To overcome this, Pos/Neg nets* are wired to allow the use of every other horizontal strand as an extension of the ground terminal. Because half the strands are connected to the ground terminal or ground rod, reliance on soil moisture is reduced. A PowerLink must be purchased separately to make the secondary ground connection.

How it works…

In order to receive a shock, the animal must touch both a positive (hot) and negative (grounded) strand at the same time. This will deliver more pain to the animal than an all hot net (Pos/Pos) because moisture in the soil is not required to complete the circuit.

Pos/Neg fences can be converted to Pos/Pos in moist conditions. Remember, all fences must be kept free of vegetation.

* Not all fences have Pos/Neg options.

Line Post Spacing

“Plus” nets—6'8" spacings between built-in line posts*

Line Post Spacing

Standard nets—10' or 12' spacings between built-in line posts*

* Spacings are approximate.
Distance between built-in line posts may vary by product.

Essential Energizer Advice

  • Buy a larger energizer than necessary. When the fence pleases, most folks will buy more fence—and need additional output.
  • Use a low-impedance intermittent pulse energizer.
  • Use a fence tester to check the voltage often.
  • Use enough ground rod(s)—included with our energizer kits.
  • Don’t allow your lead acid battery to discharge below 40%.
  • Use insulated wire that is designed for electric fences.
  • Always connect the fence to an energizer, not an outlet.
  • Visit this link for answers to other common energizer questions.

Two Basic Types

  1. All-in-one Solar
    • Solar units are very portable.
    • Because they need a battery, these units are more costly to purchase and operate than plug-in units.
    • Batteries are less effective in cold temperatures (deplete faster).
    • Most farmstore solar units are too weak, in joules of output, to properly energize netting. That’s why we designed our own.
  2. Plug-in & Battery
    • Least cost to purchase and operate per joule of output.
    • Best for fences exposed to heavy vegetation.
    • Cold temperatures do not affect performance.
    • Recommended for whole-farm systems, but can be complex to install. Higher output requires more ground rods, underground cables, multiple output terminals, etc.

Braided vs. Twisted

Braiding instead of twisting the horizontals increases the frequency of metal filaments on the outside of the strand.

Braided vs. Twisted Electric Net Fences

What’s the benefit?

  1. More metal is exposed on the outside of the strand. This enables improved animal to conductor contact. The electric pulse is better able to travel from the fence and into the animal, resulting in a memorable shock.
  2. A tighter, braided weave results in fewer snags when carried or pulled through pastures, reducing frustration.
