Use a Heating Plate Temperature Controller which allows control of Premier's Heating Plates output between 20% - 100% of full output.
Heating plate advantages over a heat lamp:
- Uses much less electricity. Only 22 watts (66 for the larger plate) vs 175 or 250 watts for a heat lamp.
- Less risk of fire because of the much lower surface temperature (125°).
- A hen keeps chicks warm beneath a heat source. So does a heat plate.
The rugged plate cover (optional and sold above) prevents older chicks from perching on top and fouling the unit with droppings. However, the plate can be hand-washed (do not submerge in water) to remove dust and debris.
How to Use
When the heating plate is plugged directly into the outlet, the red light comes on and stays on.
When it is plugged into the Heating Plate Temperature Controller, it will blink based on the min/max adjustment. Slow blink toward minimum and quicker toward max. If you turn it all the way up, it will come on full time.

Really happy I found this plate. I'm using it in a 55" x 55" brooder with 24 chicks. Even though it's bigger than what they need I wanted them to have lots of room. They definitely enjoy it. Takes the worry out of worrying about the temperature and I know they like to hide under it when they want quiet time. The price at Premier 1 is excellent and so is the customer service. Highly recommend this!

Purchased the large heat plate for young chicks. It works fabulously and the chicks prefer it over a heating lamp. They immediately ran under it upon placing them in the brooder. They slept under the heat plate and came out with vigor running to the waterer and the feeders. Then they returned to the plate and slept some more. They always chose the heating plate over the heat lamp. We like the heat plate better also because we do not worry about over-heating.

This heater is excellent for brooding chicks. I'm not quite sure that this would fit 15 chicks though, so you might consider sizing up if you are brooding more than 10 chicks.

I noticed that my chicks were gravitating toward the infrared heat coming from the box off chicks next door. That is the only reason I took one star off.

These are perfect for raising chicks! So much safer than bulbs. And the comfort of being underneath a mom-like shape keeps them calmer and happier. It really makes a difference. Super easy to change the height as they grow. I highly recommend these for happy, safe chicks.
