Heavy Duty Combo Insulator
Product Details
New! Built for added strength, our HD Combo Insulator delivers a more secure hold on steel T-posts. Its wrap-around, pinlock design keeps conductors in place, even under pressure from livestock and wildlife.
- Stronger hold—80% more grip (vs. original Combo Insulator)
- Resists impact—less likely to dislodge (e.g. from deer) or break under load
- Pinlock design—easier to adjust and repair
- Universal fit—fits common T-posts (1.25 and 1.33 lb/ft)
Ideal for line posts, it keeps conductors secure so your fence keeps working.
Specs
- Dimensions: 3"L × 1.5"W × 2"H
- Constructed from long-life, UV-stabilized virgin polyethylene
- Package quantity: 10
- Fits 1.25 and 1.33 lb/ft steel T-posts
- Accommodates most low-tension conductors—polywire, rope, twine, and braids up to 6mm diameter; also fits narrow tape
- Also holds smooth high-tensile wire in line post applications
How To Use
- Position the insulator at the desired height on the T-post.
- Place the short hook (pinlock side) against the post, then pull the long side around until it snaps into place (a flathead screwdriver may help).
- Insert the conductor into the face and close the pinlock to secure.
- Confirm the insulator is fully seated and the conductor is secure before energizing the fence.
Tip: In cold weather, or when installing by hand, flex the plastic hooks before installation. This makes them easier to bend and snap into place.
Common Questions
- Why is it called a “Combo” insulator?
- Good question—and honestly, we’re no longer sure ourselves.
It’s been debated by our product team for years. Is it because it works with both low-tension conductors and smooth high-tensile wire? Or because it fits the two most common steel T-posts (1.25 and 1.33 lb/ft)? Maybe it’s because Stan (Premier’s founder) liked the name when he introduced the original design over 25 years ago.
- Pinlock vs. Claw — What’s the difference?
- Pinlock insulators are generally easier to work with. The wire conductor can be inserted or removed quickly by pulling the pin, even with some tension on the line. This allows for faster, simpler adjustments and repairs.
Claw-style insulators trade that convenience for durability. With no small pin to break, they offer a more rugged hold and are better suited for high-stress areas where long-term strength matters more than quick adjustments.

So we reinforced those pressure points. The result is a stronger hold on the post and a tougher insulator designed for years of real-world use.
One tradeoff—it takes more effort to install. But once it’s on, it’s not coming off easily. (Tip: When installing, use a flathead screwdriver to lift the hooks over the T-post for added leverage.)
