For catching sheep and/or goats by the neck or leg.
It’s both a leg and a neck crook, obviously—but the most important advantage is the self-locking lever on the leg portion that ensures that an animal’s leg, once caught, remains caught until released by human hands.
Triangle point at end of leg shaft allows crook to be used as walking stick over uneven ground.

Tips
For catching small breeds, lambs, sheep with wool, or goats with a neck crook: Once the neck is inside the loop, instantly rotate the crook with your wrist. This applies pressure to both sides of the neck and give you a precious second or two to pull the animal into reach of your hands.

I must say that when I first got this crook I was a little disappointed. The ends felt kind of heavy and the shaft small in hand - not like the light chestnut crook that I had ruined by leaving it out in the rain. But last night I had a total change of heart. I had to catch and sort out some 6 week old lambs that I had lured into a holding pen. You know how quick lambs are, but this crook worked like magic. The foothold end is set at a right angle to the hook and forms a natural handle that give you leverage to you leverage to twist the hook after snagging the animal's neck. I was able to catch and reel in the lambs even though they struggled like mad. I haven't had occasion to use the leg hook yet, but I already love this crook.

I absolutely love this crook! It was recommended by another producer and I would recommend it to anyone else who has sheep. Managing a flock by yourself has some challenges, but utilizing simple tools such as this crook will definately make the process easier and faster.
I rated the crook as a 4/5 due to the simple fact that I have hardly used it, and hang it inside my barn when not in use - yet the tab that releases the leg hook has broke, leaving a sharp edge that requires some repairs. It's an all around solid/sturdy crook, unsure whether it was just a faulty piece? Either way, I still think the product is worth the investment.
