This is my second Kane waterer. I use them for laying and broiler chickens—about 50 of each. I have a 50 gallon water tank in the loft of my barn, plumbed with a hose splitter and garden hoses to gravity supply water to the Kanes. Sure beats hauling water twice a day to all of those chickens. My first Kane is at least 5 years old and works perfectly. Very heavy duty. Highly recommended. As long as temps are above freezing these waterers make my life easy.

It’s humorous that the manufacturer couldn’t put TWO wraps of teflon tape on the hose fittings! What would that cost... maybe .003 cents more per unit. YES, I had to take it apart to add more tape so it would not leak. Otherwise I’d give it a five star rating.

Update on my earlier review: I was able to purchase replacement float valves from the manufacturer (at $17.80 each, not including shipping). Amazon sells some for less $ but I wasn't 100% certain they would fit. They came without the fittings, which was fine as I don't care for the knurled nut fitting on the hose end on the original waterer (I'd prefer an octagonal one so that I can get a wrench on it). I did purchase some double female threaded pipe to hose connector fittings from Amazon for them. What Amazon sent me was not as pictured - I received fittings with knurled nuts on the hose end, not octagonal ones. If anyone finds themselves in my situation, I recommend Green Thumb brand 1/2" x 3/4" double female threaded pipe to hose connector fittings. Amazon doesn't seem to carry them, but I was able to find some via an internet search.

I bought half a dozen of these to use in my pastures for sheep. They work great - until they don't. Two of mine are now clogged. I sure wish the assembly where it attaches to the hose and float valve was available as a spare part - then I could replace the clogged valve. As it is, they're now pretty much useless.
ALSO: I sure wish they had a different fitting where you attach them to a hose. It's a round knurled fitting - very difficult to get a grasp on with a wrench to tighten. As a result many of my hose waterers leaked, developing wet spots in the pasture. I finally went this winter to True Value Hardware and bought proper fittings to replace the ones provided so that I could tighten them properly.
I've been very pleased with most things I've purchased from Premier1, and I recommend your products all the time. This one could stand some fairly simple improvements that should be made by the manufacturer: provide spare parts, and a better fitting.
