We find these much safer than metal and wire heat lamps. The lamps are mostly used in our lambing barn or chick brooders. Even though we find our lamps safer than others, we take every precaution to make sure our lamps stay safe. We secure them 20" or more above the lambs/kids (slightly lower for chicks), we wrap the cord around our panels and we clip them to the panels. It’s our experience that 175 watt bulbs produce enough heat for lambs and goat kids, while 250 watt bulbs are more suitable for poultry.

These heaters are a lot safer than other types of heat lamps.

Having said that, the heat directly below is not as intense as other heat lamps even though you’re using the same bulbs. Having said that, my goats do like them.

The lamps work fine and the quality is great. So what is the problem?

Did not find a cutoff switch and therefore unplugging the power cord at the lamp is required to achieve a cutoff. My problem is having seven lights all on the same power line running through my barn. This requires climbing a ladder to uplug each and every light not needed. Last night I only needed one light so the choice was climbing up and unplugging six lights or turning all seven off. So, I burned all seven lamps. Unplugging the power cord exposes the connections to dust which could cause a bad connection. Sure would be nice if an on/off switch was installed between the cord plugin and the lamp.

These are the ONLY lamps we will use for our goats! They are safe and made for livestock use. They are definitely worth the money!

These have to be the BEST heat lamps! Very safe, I have them in with my goats, they did knock one down, but we had no fire, no babies were hurt, the old traditional lambs we have had 2 fires and almost lost babies. These are AMAZING! I bought 2 to see how we would like them and bought 5 more!!! These are a must if you have farm animals that need heat in the winter time.
