We find these much safer than metal and wire heat lamps. The lamps are mostly used in our lambing barn or chick brooders. Even though we find our lamps safer than others, we take every precaution to make sure our lamps stay safe. We secure them 20" or more above the lambs/kids (slightly lower for chicks), we wrap the cord around our panels and we clip them to the panels. It’s our experience that 175 watt bulbs produce enough heat for lambs and goat kids, while 250 watt bulbs are more suitable for poultry.

I own 7 of these and they work fine in my chicken coops. Howeer, one did not stand up to the heat (using less than 250W infrared bulbs). The ceramic socket detatched and the internal wire shielding cracked and left the wires bare. The wires also detached from the socket (probably because the socket came loose). This one lasted only 6 months. The others are still going strong, but I haven't disassmbled them to check out the internal wiring on them. They are the safest heat lamps that I've found for chicken coop.

We bought two of these to replace two of the metal ones and these are extremely well made. We started off with one of the older orange ones that have been discontinued and hope these hold up just as well. We still have the orange one and it still works great. The improvements made from the older model seem to be a big plus. These are just as sturdy, but shorter and have a wire protector, which I like. We don't have as much cold weather as most areas, but we have had some 10 degree nights and our little goats really crowd around under these when we need t use them.

Heavy duty! I feel much better knowing these are in the kidding barn instead of the cheaper metal frame models. Thank you.

Great lamps. I use it on piglet areas, kids and chicks. I feel so much at ease using these versus the cheap metal ones.

These heat lamps are the best I've found anywhere. We use them to keep animals and plants warm in the winter. I think that they are much safer than the typical clip on lamp found locally. Ok, they cost more, but I intend to replace all of our other lamps with these. I hang them from 2x4 in ceiling, and the cords reach way over to the wall plugs. This is a high quality product and I highly recommend it's use.
