We find these much safer than metal and wire heat lamps. The lamps are mostly used in our lambing barn or chick brooders. Even though we find our lamps safer than others, we take every precaution to make sure our lamps stay safe. We secure them 20" or more above the lambs/kids (slightly lower for chicks), we wrap the cord around our panels and we clip them to the panels. It’s our experience that 175 watt bulbs produce enough heat for lambs and goat kids, while 250 watt bulbs are more suitable for poultry.

Love these lamps. Pricey but good quality. I feel safer using these in the barns. Kids don't get burned or does don't get their hair burnt. Save up your money and buy these...don't waste your time with others.

Had the cheap metal brand, had to find better make and these are them. Chickens constantly knocked lights. Used 150W bulb but because of deepness of lamp, 250W works better. Definitely worth the investment!

Wow, this is a really nice heat lamp, I am going to get a couple more in case I have any more early kids. The case/shell just stays warm and I don't have to worry about an animal getting burned or starting a fire if the lamp did fall.

1000 times better than the old exposed heat lamps.
