Prolapse Retainer
Least expensive response to vaginal prolapses. Every shepherd should have at least one on hand.
Used in conjunction with a prolapse harness.
Benefits
Specs
- Dimensions: 9-1/4" x 5-3/4"
- Width of spoon: 1-11/16"
- String ties are 15" long
- Made of heavy duty yellow plastic that does not break in use

How to Use
- Clean off the prolapse.
- Apply SuperLube™ to it and push it gently, but completely, back inside the ewe.
- Insert the spoon into the vulva.
- Tie to a clump of wool (leave no slack). If there is no long wool, tie it to the two buckles of a prolapse harness.
Tips
Precautions
We rarely use this retainer on its own. If a ewe prolapes, we immediately use both a retainer and a harness. After the ewe stops straining (normally 2 to 3 days), we remove the retainer and somewhat loosen the harness.

The prolapse retainer is a great product. We had a ewe with a large prolapse. First we tried just the prolapse harness, but that didn't work to well. The prolapse retainer did the job and kept it in. The ewe had one big lamb. The lambs front feet got caught on the retainer and couldn't be born. We had to remove the retainer and assist with the birth. After the birth we reinserted the retainer. The ewe is doing well.

Got this product for a goat doe that had prolapsed. It wasn't in time for her but about a week later I found another goat with a prolapse. I used the retainer and the harness and successfully got the prolapse back in the goat. This process went pretty well, but it can be kind of hard when you are doing it yourself. Make sure you get the harness fitted before you put in the retainer. The doe did kid around the retainer and the harness. The kids were early and she dropped them between 10 pm and 8 am so the kids did not make it.
However, I would definitely use the product again and suggest everyone with breeding sheep or goats have the retainers and prolapse harness on hand. I bought four of the retainers and two of the harnesses so I have them on hand in the future.

Haven’t had to use this yet but have seen it used on another farm. That’s why I bought one. Extremely helpful in saving ewes and lambs.
