Benefits
The GOLD Formula difference…
Formulated by Premier’s small ruminant nutritionist, Dr. Dan Morrical, Ph.D., Sheep Trace Mineral Premix contains high levels of zinc and iodine to promote healthier hooves, animal growth and reproduction. (Hoof growth is a long term process so benefits may not be seen for several months of continuous feeding of this trace mineral salt mixture.)
Dr. Morrical builds on the work done by Dr. Kennedy of Pipestone Veterinary Services. In addition to increased levels of zinc and iodine, Sheep Trace Mineral Premix contains additional selenium (to the maximum level allowed by the FDA), manganese, and cobalt to maximize flock health and immunity. Molybdenum has also been increased for more protection against copper accumulation in the liver—sheep absorb copper more efficiently than goats.

How to Use
Thoroughly mix Sheep Trace Mineral Premix into 50 lbs of feed mixing salt. Provide in weekly amounts to the sheep flock to prevent wastage from weathering.
Sheep are expected to consume .25 oz of mixture per head per day. If sheep are in confinement, also add 2 lb of Sheep/Goat Vitamin A/D/E Premix. Our research determined that when vitamins are added to a premix, they begin to degrade and lose their effectiveness. The shepherd can slow this break down by keeping vitamins and minerals separate, until they are ready to be fed.
Note: Bag labels indicate mixing 1 lb of A/D/E with the mineral premix. We suggest to mix 2 lbs of A/D/E with mineral mix for sheep consuming the mineral in confinement (i.e. without access to fresh forage).
For flocks needing calcium and phosphorous, add 20 lbs dicalcium phosphate and 10 lbs of limestone to the 55 lb salt mixture. Intake should increase to .5 oz of mixture per head per day to ensure adequate micro-mineral consumption. If intakes are not adequate, 5% molasses or processed grains can be added to increase palatability.
Always provide a source of fresh, clean water.
Tips
Shepherd’s Choice® Management Tip
Adding Deccox to trace mineral salt mix is a means of treating pasture lambs. However, the dosage is tricky. Ewes need 0.5 mg per kilogram of bodyweight. (E.g. If ewes are 154 pounds, or 70 kg, they need 35 mg per day.) In a 55 pound mix of Sheep Trace Mineral Premix with salt, add 5 pounds of 6% Deccox®.* Lambs may not eat enough to be treated. One can double the inclusion rate as Deccox is quite safe.In areas with excess moisture and humidity, add an anti-caking agent to the trace mineral salt to prevent the mixture from clumping. As an alternative, reduce the amount of salt offered to a weekly supply, or less.
Several anti-caking agents are specific for salt. They are calcium aluminum silicate, calcium silicate, calcium stearate, magnesium stearate or magnesium silicate. The inclusion rate should start at 1% of the salt mixture and can go up to 2%. Diatomaceous earth can also be used at a 2% inclusion rate.

Been using a month now. Saves money and time not having to fill mineral feeder up all the time. Mixing it up is very easy. Will buy more.

Sheep Trace Mineral Premix was promptly shipped and arrived within days of ordering. The sheep went straight to the mineral as if they knew they needed it.

Love this product! It costs slightly more than TSC after mixing with salt but it lasts the animals 3x longer as it dosn't have sweeteners.

I have been fighting hoof rot issues for 4–5 years. At different times I’ve wanted to throw in the towel. I was putting down a lot of limestone around drinkers, hoof trimming, and a lot of Zactran shots. But every time we had a wet spell or Spring thaw, it would break out all over again.
Then THANKFULLY I started using Dr. Morrical’s sheep mineral product. I could see a difference in a very short period of time. Upon advice from a local vet, I did cull my real chronics. Even after starting with the premix, I still shot a few ewes early on with Zactran, but now it’s been 6 months or more since I have given a shot for foot rot.
Sheep Trace Mineral Premix has been an unbelievable product. I recommend HIGHLY, but keep in mind to be religious about keeping mineral in front of them at ALL times.

Great product, specifically for sheep. Will purchase again.
