We loved this product when we picked it up last year to assist dealing with our new flock of sheep. We were disappointed the curve at the end of the crook flattened out over winter. Possibly we got a defective one? I would not recommend this for humid climates or areas that receive lots of rain.

This crook saw heavy use everyday for almost 4 years before it finally broke. It would have made it much longer without abuse. It finally gave in after it was used to pry frozen hay in subzero temps. That's not its intended function and completely my fault. It handled 250lb rams and small lambs alike without fail. Beautiful, lightweight, and very functional. When it broke it was like losing an old friend.

I am very pleased with my crook. I do not work sheep but I am doing freestyle with my border collie. As border collies were bred for sheep herding in Northern Britain, I like the shepherd theme for our freestyle programs. We are currently putting together one based on "While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks By NIGHT". The crook is quality, authentic, attractive and practical!

This is a really pretty and unique crook, but the one I received broke quickly. The first day I used it my most determined ewe ran past me at full speed and I hooked her. The crook actually split and straightened at the curve. She escaped from it, and the wood went back into position, but is split lengthwise around the curve. I probably shouldn't have hooked a large animal running that fast, and in some ways I'm glad it was flexible or she might have been injured, but I was quite surprised that it split. I didn't send it back -- it's still useful to grab things on high shelves, and for smaller/slower animals. The opening is a little narrower than most hooks, so it might be too small for really large sheep, but is the perfect size for older lambs.

Great company to work with. Beautiful shepherd's crook. Quality wood. It is going to be a surprise gift for our new Senior Pastor. (Along with a fashioned cudgel. Pastors need both to keep their flock in line with the Gospel.) Thank you Premier 1 for providing this wonderful opportunity for gifting!
