After 8 years and almost as many different types of chicken waterers, I have found one I can finally rely on. The classic galvanized double wall waterer has one inherent weak area in it's design, inevitable rust through. This waterer fixes that. If kept out of direct sunlight, it should last for a decade or longer. No floats to fail, no tipping upside down, no catastrophic spills, no rust, just a simple fail proof design.
I found that the base of this waterer fits perfectly on an upside down dual wheel hubcap (chrome plated plastic), holding it at about the right height for adult chickens. For cold weather, an 8x8x8 half cinder block with a 100 watt light bulb fixed inside works as a good heated base for it.
I hope they continue to make this waterer for many years.

Not quite as well engineered as the old galvanized waterers, but it’s working out fine sitting on the ground. Issues: Drinking trough fills immediately and the top does not lock in place. I wouldn’t trust it as a hanging waterer. Mine sits on a riser for young birds.

I ordered these waterers by mistake-I thought I was ordering the top fill ones. Must have been juggling too many things at once. Now that I have been using them I really like them. They are sturdy but lightweight and easy to clean. Took me a couple of times to get the hang of covering the hole as I fill it, but that is no big deal. I may order more for the meat birds.

These are awesome waters! Much easier to fill than the ones you have to add the bottom to and twist and then flip. The only issues are that water gushes out the hole while you have the lid off adding water. I cover it with my finger. I would say it would be nice if there was a cover you could move down while filling, but then we might forget to uncover and they would go without water when you think it's full. I have several waters, so it wouldn't be a problem but I can see it being one. Maybe if there was something that moved a cover over it when you twist the top off and then it moved it back out of the way when you put it back on....

I love this waterer! It's so easy to use....just fill the inside well, secure the top and go! The handle on top makes it so easy to carry.
