Shepherd’s Choice™ Management Tip
While VIMCO® is USDA approved for use in dairy and meat goats, the animal trials were completed in Europe. No third-party testing was done in the USA.That said, producer reported reactions are uncommon. When they do occur, they are most often in an uncontrolled environment.
For example, say a producer was vaccinating a group of goats. The producer used herding dogs to corral the animals and then vaccinated them. A few days later one aborted and two had swellings. Was this from the vaccine, or the stress of herding them with dogs? Was it rough handling, a contaminated needle, wet animals, etc.
To minimize adverse reactions:
- Never vaccinate a wet animal
- Always use a sterile needle to puncture into the bottle of vaccine
- Always keep vaccine cold
- Inject SQ (under the skin) by the neck or behind the front leg
- Have clean hands when handling syringes, vaccine and needles
- Discard a needle when it gets burred, bent or touches anything other than the bottle stopper or animal
Dosage & Administration
Store and transport between 35°F–46°F. Bring to room temperature (59°F–77°F) and shake well before use. Use a clean needle per animal.
All doses must be administered within 12 hours of opening bottle.

A group of 4 of us decided to get this vaccine for our goat herds. Once receiving the vaccine the goats got sick. With 2 different herds there were goats ranging from just not moving around much and stargazing—to abortions in 2 animals. The other herds were too scared to give it to their animals. Now we have a bunch of vaccines we can’t use. Very sad all around. Not sure if we received a bad batch of product or if this vaccine really had no business around pregnant animals.

Premier was very helpful with shipping this product. A representative called me to make sure it was okay to ship this with my other items even though VIMCO needed refrigerated. They gave me other ground options but I chose to forfeit my warranty if it was not cold when arriving.
It arrived cold, so I wouldn’t hesitate again to have it shipped the same way. The ice packs were still completely frozen. Fast shipment and great packaging job.
Very nice company to deal with and great customer service!

Life saver! We hadn’t had many problems with mastitis with our meat goats then one group had severe mastitis, including gangrene. Some presenting right away at kidding while others were a week or so post-kidding. We lost does and kids due to our outbreak. Vet recommended VIMCO so we vaccinated our next group to kid and made such a difference: none of our 70 does had mastitis! This is now part of our regular vaccination program.

VIMCO is awesome. We had some high scc cows and this vaccine brought our scc way down.

Great product! I have had some heifers calving in with extremely high scc numbers. This has helped a lot with clearing up mastitis and getting overall scc numbers down. I will be purchasing more and giving it to my whole herd.
