Premier PRS 100 Solar Energizer & Kit
Product Details

Discontinued — The PRS 100 solar powered electric fence energizer is for folks who need a 1-joule unit for summer through fall usage.
When compared to competing units with similar output, PRS units have a larger solar panel (in watts) and larger batteries (ampere hours).
Instructions/Diagrams:
Common Uses
Specs
Includes:
- 1.0 joule energizer
- 2-12 amp hour 12V sealed lead acid batteries
- Wiring harness
- 10-watt solar panel
- Ground rod
- Metal carry case
Note: Kit includes all of the above and a 5-Light Wireless Fence Tester.
Joules
- 1.3 stored joules
- 1.0 released joules
- 0.87 joules in moist soils
- 0.35 joules in dry soils
Miscellaneous
- Requires 3' of ground rod in the ground.
- Draw from a 12V battery is 87 milliampere (mA) per hour. With this energizer a 12v 100 ampere hour, deep cycle battery will last approximately 28 days* on a clean or a weedy fence. *Assumes being drawn down to 40% between recharges.
- 40 pulses per minute. If properly used and or stored, battery should last 3-4 years.
Should Power...
- 2 miles of 3 strand cattle fence.
- 3/4 mile of 5-7 strand sheep fence.
- 10 164' Sheep/Goat nets or 4-5 164' Poultry Nets
Benefits
- Assembled in house at Premier. We build each unit and test it before it goes out our door. This allows us to know that we are sending you a unit that works.
- Lowest price for a powerful solar all-in-one 1.0 joule unit.
- Can be laid flat on the ground during summer months to make them less visible to the public.
- To catch the sun's power in winter, simply lean it against a post. If you live in low-sun areas, do this in the late fall and early winter also.
- All metal case; very strong and rugged.
- Won't rust. It's aluminum and stainless steel.
- Light brown exterior reduces its visibility to vandals and reduces heat buildup inside the case.
- All metal clamps for lid.
How to Use
Winter Use
If you're not using your PRS unit during the winter follow these tips to preserve battery life:
If you're planning on using your PRS unit during the winter months, follow these helpful hints:
To use light tester WITHOUT ground probe
For Fence:- Touch the top of the tester to the electrified fence you wish to test.
- Push the button (if applicable).
- The tester will light up according to the voltage at that location on the fence.
- Turn off energizer.
- Disconnect ground wire and fence wire from energizer.
- Turn on energizer.
- Touch the top of the tester onto the top of the fence terminal on the energizer.
- Push the button (if applicable).
- The tester should light up to 6000 volts or more.
To use light tester WITH ground probe
For Fence:- Insert the probe of the tester into the soil.
- Remove your hand from the metal portion of the probe (to avoid a shock).
- To get a voltage reading, touch the metal clip (on the top of the tester) to the electrified fence you wish to test.
- The tester will light up according to the voltage at that location on the fence.
- Remove the tester from the fence and the probe from the soil. Do not remove the probe by pulling the insulated wire.
- Turn off energizer.
- Disconnect ground wire and fence wire from energizer.
- Turn on energizer.
- Touch probe from tester to ground terminal on energizer (be sure to hold onto the insulated wire and not the metal probe!)
- At same time touch the fence hook on tester to fence terminal on energizer.
- The tester should light up to 6000 volts or more.
Troubleshooting
Start by measuring the voltage at the end of the fence line. If the voltage is below 3000V, follow these steps to determine if the problem is with the fence, or the energizer.
Test the energizer first!
- Turn off the energizer.
- Disconnect the wires going to the fence and ground stake/rod.
- Turn the energizer back on.
- Measure the voltage on the energizer between the two terminals (positive and negative) with a digital voltmeter or other high-voltage tester. Touch one end to “-“ (earth terminal) and the other end to “+” (fence terminal). The reading tells you how well the energizer is working without any other variables.
- If the tester reads below 5000V, then the energizer (or possibly the battery) is the problem. If the voltage is above 5000V, then the trouble lies with your fence.
If the energizer is at fault:
- Test the battery with a low-voltage tester; recharge if lower than 12.2 volts
- Check the grounding system
If the fence is at fault:
- Conductors touching another wire, steel post or the soil
- Broken or damaged insulators
Precautions
- Make sure the power is turned off before working on the fence or the energizer.
- Make sure the fence line is clear of grass and debris that may lower the fence’s voltage.
- Ensure the solar panel is facing due south and avoid placing the unit where it may be covered by shadows from trees, bushes or tall grass.
- Regularly remove all debris from the solar panel.
- Batteries that are less than 40% charged may become damaged. Batteries MUST remain fully charged in freezing conditions.
To Reduce Risk & Liability
- Never place your head or upper spine near an electrified wire. Accidental head or neck contact can occur when pushing a voltage probe into the soil. Be careful when doing so to avoid head-to-wire contact!
- Never attempt to step over or climb through an energized fence of any kind.
- Never encourage anyone to touch an electric fence.
Warranty
30-day warranty for all batteries.

Great charger, love the carrying case. Only negative so far is the 5 light tester that comes with the kit. The 3000V bulb was burnt out and the only remedy was to mail it back. But, with the cost of shipping vs the cost of the tester, it didn't make sense. So as long as my fences are 4000V plus, it'll be ok.

Love this charger. Had it for several months now and It works great, even after a week of cloudy weather. Nothing ground based gets through this, and we have every type of predator you can think of short of Lions, Tigers, and bears. I love that this is working away, and my electric bill isn't going up a bit.

I have now had this product in the field for its 3rd season. It has worked as advertised even though I frankly have abused it by leaving it in my field through all sorts of weather for those 3 seasons (and left it on for those 3 seasons.) I just recently replaced the batteries and a hinge that siezed up, but once doing those repairs it is back in use on one of my two 48" poultry nets protecting a batch of 75 chickens and their chicken tractor. I have only had one animal defeat this product and the poultry net and this was a mink (he now sits on my manlte.) All other predators have not harmed (those predators Red Foxes, Coyotes, Wild dogs, Racoons, Possums, Skunks, and Feral Cats) any of the 600+ chickens I have raised since purchasing my 2 poultry nets and this solar charger. I have killed 6 Coyotes since purchasing this equipment in that time frame all with 300 yds of my property, so I know the net and charger are working. The only other predator not affected by the product are the hawks and owls which I have to use other methods to defend against. I highly recommend this product and the poultry nets as a base defense for protecting your poultry against four legged predators.

Love this setup! We purchased it for the rugged box and all in one convenience and it is amazing. We have 450 feet of woven fencing on it and everything that touches the fence leaps away, the dogs, the cats, the sheep, everybody. I usually touch the fence myself but after watching the animal's responses I have not subjected myself to this charger! Great product.

An impressive energizer that consistently exceeded the 8k voltage reading on my tester. I would highly recommend this, but would suggest that users in more northern latitudes (I'm in Central MN) have a backup battery set for it. The panel is not sufficient enough to fully charge the batteries later in the season, even if you tilt the case for more direct sunlight.
