Goat Trace Mineral Premix
A complete, free-choice trace mineral premix for goats. Contains additional copper with no added molybdenum (ties up copper) for improved immunity.
- Supplements 10 goats for 1 year
- Mix with 50 lbs of plain salt
- High levels of zinc and iodine for hoof health, animal growth and reproduction
- Nutritionist formulated to exceed NRC requirements
Add Sheep/Goat Vitamin A/D/E Premix for diets low in fresh forage.
CONTAINS HIGH LEVELS OF COPPER. DO NOT FEED TO SHEEP.
The GOLD Formula difference…
Formulated by Premier’s small ruminant nutritionist, Dr. Dan Morrical, Ph.D., Goat Trace Mineral Premix contains high levels of zinc and iodine to promote healthier hooves, animal growth and reproduction. (Hoof growth is a long term process so benefits may not be seen for several months of continuous feeding of this trace mineral salt mixture.)
Dr. Morrical builds on the work done by Dr. Kennedy of Pipestone Veterinary Services. In addition to increased levels of zinc and iodine, Goat Trace Mineral Premix contains additional selenium (to the maximum level allowed by the FDA), manganese, and cobalt to maximize flock health and immunity. Copper has been increased with no added molybdenum (ties up copper) for better milking production.
GOLD vs. SE/I (when mixed with 50 lb plain salt)

How to Use
Thoroughly mix Goat Trace Mineral Premix into 50 lbs of feed mixing salt. Provide in weekly amounts to the goat herd to prevent wastage from weathering.
Goats are expected to consume .25 oz of mixture per head per day. If goats are in confinement, also add 2 lbs of Sheep/Goat Vitamin A/D/E Premix. Our research determined that when vitamins are added to a premix, they begin to degrade and lose their effectiveness. The shepherd can slow this break down by keeping vitamins and minerals separate, until they are ready to be fed.
For herds needing calcium and phosphorous, add 20 lbs dicalcium phosphate and 10 lbs of limestone to the 55 lb salt mixture. Intake should increase to .5 oz of mixture per head per day to ensure adequate micro-mineral consumption. If intakes are not adequate, 5% molasses or processed grains can be added to increase palatability.
Always provide a source of fresh, clean water.
Goat producers should be cautious using copper oxide wire particles in addition to our goat trace mineral packs. Overuse of copper oxide wire particles for parasite control could result in copper poisoning in goats. Consult your local veterinarian or Dr. Dan Morrical (firstname.lastname@example.org) on the copper status of their operations.
Intake above .25 oz per head per day will exceed the allowable FDA intake levels of .69 mg of selenium per head per day. To reduce intake of the trace mineral salt mixture, dilute with more salt and/or move feed locations further from water sources or congregation areas.
Read all warnings and cautions on label. Follow mixing and feeding instructions carefully. For livestock use only.

My goats look so good on this mineral, but I am having issues with the salt drawing water and becoming soggy. I have tried putting it out in small amounts but overnight it becomes a puddle. Can I mix it with the feed or put it in their water?

We started using The Shepherd's Choice goat trace mineral mix in our dairy. We mix it with a 50# bag of plain salt in a cement mixer I had previously purchased for mixing feed. We also add the ADE premix. First DHI test after we started using it showed lower SCC. We will continue using it.

I started using the Goat Trace Mineral Mix at the end of March. I bought three bags and mixed with plain stock salt, ADE premix and powdered molasses as per directions. Those three bags lasted until the end of August. I was previously using a 50 lb trace mineral salt I purchased at a big box farm supply store that costs 18 to 22 dollars a bag. I was feeding two to three bags a month of that stuff. The significant savings in money alone is enough for me to tell other people to buy the Shepherds Choice mineral mix. The other reason is that the mineral levels provided are significantly higher than the previous mineral I was feeding and higher than anything else I can find.
While I seem to being fewer issues with foot scald than last year, being able to feed this product through a muddy winter and will be the proof in the pudding. I am seeing healthier looking coats on my goats.
I am sticking with this product as I am happy with it. I may even buy a small cement mixer to mix it up if I keep using it.
