Heating plate advantages over a heat lamp:
- Uses much less electricity. Only 22 watts (66 for the larger plate) vs 175 or 250 watts for a heat lamp.
- Less risk of fire because of the much lower surface temperature (125°).
- A hen keeps chicks warm beneath a heat source. So does a heat plate.
The rugged plate cover (optional) prevents older chicks from perching on top and fouling the unit with droppings. However, the plate can be hand-washed to remove dust and debris.
How to Use
Height adjustment is important. As the chicks grow, use the adjustable legs to increase the height of the plate above the bedding and chicks.

My chicks are healthy and happy. Seem a lot happier.
We have 3 bantams and the brooder is in our living room. I am so glad we bought this, I was so worried if we had used a light these chicks would've peeped all night long keeping everyone awake. Best purchase by far. We also bought the cover to keep them off the top of the heater. Chicks need warmth not light, I am so glad we found this before bringing our babies home.

This was the best "Piece of Mind" that we could of EVER purchased. I don't worry about an electrical fire nor any harm to our chicks. They love it and so do we!

i ordered 3 small with covers and think they are the only heat source i will use from now on on my chicks from day olds to about 3weeks
i think it is much more natural for chicks to go under a warm dark place and come out to eat and drink.
i am using a low watt night light bulb over the food and water and it really works wrll!

Purchased the small heater! I will say it is easy to assemble, durable but the only issue I have is the bottom plate seems to get to hot. You need to keep it fairly high
