Common Uses
A 110V AC or 12V DC electric fence energizer kit used to keep out deer, raccoons and rabbits from garden/orchard areas. It is also used to keep in poultry, cattle, sheep, goats, horses, and guard dogs. Effective at protecting against coyotes, stray dogs, bear and fox.

**All distances are dependent on amount of grass/weed load on the fence. Low-impedance circuitry produces a short, very strong electrical pulse designed to cope with moderate weed load.

Miscellaneous

  • Requires a grounding system. Inadequate grounding is the most common failure in an electric fence system. We recommend 3 ft. of grounding (a 3 ft ground rod is included in the kit) for this energizer.

How to Use
The energizer can be mounted either inside or outside of a building, but not where there is risk of fire. The energizer must be mounted vertically. Protect the energizer from direct rainfall or flooding.
  1. Connect insulated cable (stripped back 1 - 2" on ends) to the fence terminal on energizer, run the cable to the fence line and connect, or use the positive part of the Wiring Harness, not included.
  2. Then run a second length of cable from the ground terminal (with ends stripped again) on the energizer to the ground rod, or use the negative part of the Wiring Harness, not included.
  3. Secure to ground rod with a clamp.
  4. Plug into outlet and test fence.

To use light tester WITHOUT ground probe

For Fence:
  1. Touch the top of the tester to the electrified fence you wish to test.
  2. Push the button (if applicable).
  3. The tester will light up according to the voltage at that location on the fence.
For Energizer:
  1. Turn off energizer.
  2. Disconnect ground wire and fence wire from energizer.
  3. Turn on energizer.
  4. Touch the top of the tester onto the top of the fence terminal on the energizer.
  5. Push the button (if applicable).
  6. The tester should light up to 6000 volts or more.

To use light tester WITH ground probe

For Fence:
  1. Insert the probe of the tester into the soil.
  2. Remove your hand from the metal portion of the probe (to avoid a shock).
  3. To get a voltage reading, touch the metal clip (on the top of the tester) to the electrified fence you wish to test.
  4. The tester will light up according to the voltage at that location on the fence.
  5. Remove the tester from the fence and the probe from the soil. Do not remove the probe by pulling the insulated wire.
For Energizer:
  1. Turn off energizer.
  2. Disconnect ground wire and fence wire from energizer.
  3. Turn on energizer.
  4. Touch probe from tester to ground terminal on energizer (be sure to hold onto the insulated wire and not the metal probe!)
  5. At same time touch the fence hook on tester to fence terminal on energizer.
  6. The tester should light up to 6000 volts or more.

Ground rod and clamp

  1. Allow 3 ft of rod per joule of energy released.
  2. Use multiple 6 ft rods for large energizers and 3 ft rods for smaller energizers (and lightning diverters).
  3. Make sure to put the ground rod all the way into the ground.
  4. To attach ground wire, strip the coating off the wire 1" - 2" and make an elongated "U" in the wire.
  5. Put the "U" against the rod and put the clamp around it. Tighten.

Just cut the soft wire cable with a knife, strip off the insulation and wrap it 4 or more times around the wire by hand. It can be removed and reinstalled many times

Troubleshooting
You’ll need an electric fence tester (included with kit) to measure voltage.

Start by measuring the voltage at the end of the fence line. If the voltage is below 3000V, follow these steps to determine if the problem is with the fence, or the energizer.

  1. Turn off the energizer.
  2. Disconnect the wires going to the fence and ground stake/rod.
  3. Turn the energizer back on.
  4. Measure the voltage on the energizer between the two terminals (positive and negative) with a digital voltmeter or other high-voltage tester. Touch one end to “-“ (earth terminal) and the other end to “+” (fence terminal). The reading tells you how well the energizer is working without any other variables.
  5. If the tester reads below 5000V, then the energizer (or possibly the battery) is the problem. If the voltage is above 5000V, then the trouble lies with your fence.
Determine if the battery or the energizer is the problem.
  • Test the battery with a low-voltage tester; recharge if lower than 12.2 volts
  • Check the grounding system

Re-attach the fence and ground wires to the energizer and turn it on. Then, walk or drive along the fence looking for situations that are reducing the voltage:
  • Conductors touching another wire, steel post or the soil
  • Broken or damaged insulators

Precautions
Make sure the energizer is unplugged before working on the fence or the energizer.

Ground rod and clamp: When installing more than one ground rod, space the ground rods apart 2 feet longer than the rod. Example 3' rods should be spaced 6' apart.

To Reduce Risk & Liability

  • Never place your head or upper spine near an electrified wire. Accidental head or neck contact can occur when pushing a voltage probe into the soil. Be careful when doing so to avoid head-to-wire contact!
  • Never attempt to step over or climb through an energized fence of any kind.
  • Never encourage anyone to touch an electric fence.

Warranty
3-year warranty for energizers and solar panels cover lightning damage and defective parts or workmanship. Should an energizer fail, we will replace the unit, bill you for the cost to do so, then reimburse you for warranted expenses after we have examined the failed unit. Misuse and flood damage are not covered.

After losing 8 of my 16 chickens to predators, I decided to buy energized netting to surround the coop area following the arrival of my new chickens. The energizer was easy to install and included everything you would need to attach to the netting and test the power flow. I had a tool to strip coaxial cable and that worked like a charm on the insulated wiring. The first night that I powered up the netting, I heard high pitched screaming at four intervals at 1:15 AM. The energizer had done its job and kept my flock safe. I can sleep much easier now.

The first time I saw your poultry net set up was on a video by the renowned Geoff Lawton. He was demonstrating his chicken tractor system and I thought it absolutely brilliant! Since that time I have seen your product used by many many people who all attest to its quality and faithful performance. So, when it came time to purchase my own fence system I didn't even consider looking at other brands. I have never used an electric fence before so I was completely ignorant of all the ins and outs, however, your clear and succinct instructions (plus all the wonderful YouTubers) made it all very easy to understand. Loving my new Premier 1 fence!

I was slow and cautious setting this up but needn't have been. The instructions plus the many You Tube video's made it as easy as anyone could want to set up and hook to a fence. So glad you sent the sheet warning against using the constant charge fence charger with the fence as that is exactly what I had on hand and had planned to use! Now I feel my chickens are safe not only from other chicken eaters but from fire as well! Thank you for this excellent product!

Gave the product 4 stars due to the poor instructions that came with it and the netting. Fortunately I have some experience with these types of systems and was able to figure everything out, but the verbiage and pictures leave a lot to be desired. I would rather know what each piece is for rather than guess what something "must" be for (like the radiator clamp........it is for the ground stake, by the way). Otherwise, good product.

I had never before even seen the power behind an electric fence let alone installed anything. This whole experience was completely new to me. Yet I pulled the materials out of the box, read the directions, and set everything up easily! The most difficult part of the installation was removing the insulation from the ends of the wire (I ended up using a utility knife). I attached this energizer to two 100' sections of ElectroStop Plus 10/42/12. Plugged it in and tested along the fence line using the 5 Light Fence Tester. Success! My Dwarf Nigerians tested it right away (of course), got a little zap, and we've had no issues since.
