Common Uses
A 110V electric fence energizer used for medium length fences. It will keep in cattle, sheep, goats, horses, poultry and guard dogs. Effective at protecting against coyotes, stray dogs, bear and fox. It also works to keep deer, raccoons and rabbits out of garden/orchard areas.

**All distances are dependent on amount of grass/weed load on the fence. Low-impedance circuitry produces a short, very strong electrical pulse designed to cope with moderate weed load.

Miscellaneous

  • Requires a grounding system. Inadequate grounding is the most common failure in an electric fence system. We recommend 6 ft. of grounding for this energizer, included in the kit.

Benefits
Wide-impedance units perform better over a wider range of fence conditions and conductors than standard low-impedance units. Areas where wide-impedance units excel are: high resistance conductors (stainless steel polywire/hot tape/electrified netting); minimal ground rods; livestock or wildlife with dry skin or hair (poultry, deer, goats); and very dry soils. Safe to use with all polywire, polyrope, tape and electrified netting.

Installation
The Kube 4000 can be mounted either inside or outside of a building, but not where there is risk of fire. The energizer must be mounted vertically. Protect the energizer from direct rainfall.

  1. Connect insulated cable (stripped back 1 - 2" on ends) to the fence terminal on energizer, run the cable to the fence line and connect.
  2. Then run a second length of cable from the ground terminal (with ends stripped again) on the energizer to the ground rod.
  3. Secure to ground rod with a clamp.
  4. Plug the energizer directly into an outlet and test fence. Do not use an extension cord as it may cause a decrease in voltage and expose the unit to the elements.
  5. Unit indicator light should flash and a tic-tac sound will be heard. If the indicator light doesn't flash, then the unit should be serviced.

Precautions
Make sure the power is turned off before working on the fence or the energizer.

To Reduce Risk & Liability

  • Never place your head or upper spine near an electrified wire. Accidental head or neck contact can occur when pushing a voltage probe into the soil. Be careful when doing so to avoid head-to-wire contact!
  • Never attempt to step over or climb through an energized fence of any kind.
  • Never encourage anyone to touch an electric fence.

Troubleshooting
You’ll need an electric fence tester (included with kit) to measure voltage.

Start by measuring the voltage at the end of the fence line. If the voltage is below 3000V, follow these steps to determine if the problem is with the fence, or the energizer.

  1. Turn off the energizer.
  2. Disconnect the wires going to the fence and ground stake/rod.
  3. Turn the energizer back on.
  4. Measure the voltage on the energizer between the two terminals (positive and negative) with a digital voltmeter or other high-voltage tester. Touch one end to “-“ (earth terminal) and the other end to “+” (fence terminal). The reading tells you how well the energizer is working without any other variables.
  5. If the tester reads below 5000V, then the energizer (or possibly the battery) is the problem. If the voltage is above 5000V, then the trouble lies with your fence.
Determine if the battery or the energizer is the problem.
  • Test the battery with a low-voltage tester; recharge if lower than 12.2 volts
  • Check the grounding system

Re-attach the fence and ground wires to the energizer and turn it on. Then, walk or drive along the fence looking for situations that are reducing the voltage:
  • Conductors touching another wire, steel post or the soil
  • Broken or damaged insulators

Warranty
3-year warranty for energizers and solar panels cover lightning damage and defective parts or workmanship. Should an energizer fail, we will replace the unit, bill you for the cost to do so, then reimburse you for warranted expenses after we have examined the failed unit. Misuse and flood damage are not covered.

In fairness to the product, there is no 'problem' with it. HOWEVER, I do wish that someone had told me how many extras I would be needing to purchase/do in order to get my fence working at a voltage to keep coyotes out do to Arizona conditions. I am giving it one star for the extra time and money I spent (am spending daily in water)to make it work. The dryness of Arizona soil meant running more grounding wires, live strands, and a soaker hose around the hole perimeter in order to get the voltage I needed to ward off coyotes. Aside from the original purchase of the fence and energizer, I probably spent an additional $250 to make the fence work properly. Oh, and there was NO WAY I was sinking a grounding rod into my ground 3 feet down. I ended up painstakingly pounding two 1.5' rods in and running drip lines to them. Lots of more water usage to make this product work than I would have thought. This all said, however, it does seem to be putting enough juice out now. So again, the low star rating is due to my location/dry soil issues.

We have very dry rocky conditions with dry snow. Since the KUBE 4000 came to our aid there has been a lot less worry about bucks crossing into the doe pens.

This energizer is easy to install and use. It has successfully contained free range chickens and guinea fowl. Even more important it has protected all of them from preditors, I have not lost one bird since I got Premier's fence and the Kube.
