SolarStop™ 80 Fence Energizer
Solar powered 0.8 output joule energizer for electric fences. The portable all-in-one SolarStop™ 80 can be used to contain sheep, goats, poultry, swine, cattle, horses and other livestock.
- ✔ Effective against predators!
- Electric fence is a pain barrier, not a physical barrier. Animals conclude the fence itself is painful—and then avoid it.
- ✔ Quick to set up, operable in minutes
- No buried lead-out wires or underground cables are required.
- ✔ 33% more output (vs. Solar IntelliShock® 60)
- More output = less hassle from weeds and ornery livestock.
Note: Kit includes a Digital Tester (for testing fence voltage and 12V battery voltage.)

Common Uses
Can also be used with garden and wildlife fences to keep out deer, raccoons, woodchucks, rabbits, opossums and skunks.
Solar powered energizers are a popular choice when 110V power is not easily accessible. Attached solar panel will recharge the battery on sunny days.
Benefits
Glass solar panel—Glass increases longevity (vs. plastic), and the smooth surface discourages the growth of moss and other bacteria.
Sealed electrical components—Ants and other insects are attracted to man-made electrical devices. They may swarm inside the units, causing a short-circuit or permanent damage. The primary circuit board (PCB) and transformer are “sealed”, meaning bugs cannot get inside.
Versatile mounting options—Place the unit on the ground or mount to a post with a max. diameter of 41mm (1.6"). This includes standard T-posts sold at farm stores. Alternatively, we offer a Mounting Stake (sold separately) to elevate the unit, or for use as an additional ground rod.
Status indicator lights—Bright LEDs flash to indicate the operational status of the unit. Green when the unit is on, yellow when the solar panel is producing current and red when the battery needs to be recharged.
External 110V port—Allows the energizer to be operated without a battery, or to recharge the battery via 110V wall outlet using the included recharger.

How to Use
Always check the voltage to ensure the fence is properly electrified before introducing animals.
Optimal Solar Orientation and Placement
Correct placement of the energizer and solar panel is critical to the best operation of the unit.1. Position the energizer so that the solar panel faces due south. This will allow the panel to receive the maximum amount of sunlight possible even during the low-light days of winter. Consider the sun’s movement throughout the day and avoid placing the unit where it may be covered by shadows from trees, bushes, tall grass, buildings or fence posts.
2. Regularly remove all debris from the solar panel. This includes grass clippings, dust (especially on gravel roads), leaves and snow as this will reduce the solar panel’s ability to recharge the battery.
Precautions
- Make sure the power is turned off before working on the fence or the energizer.
- Make sure the fence line is clear of grass and debris that may lower the fence’s voltage.
- Ensure the solar panel is facing due south and avoid placing the unit where it may be covered by shadows from trees, bushes or tall grass.
- Regularly remove all debris from the solar panel.
- Batteries that are less than 40% charged may become damaged. Batteries MUST remain fully charged in freezing conditions.
- You must use the included 110V Recharger (Item #371040-US) when recharging the battery, or operating the SolarStop™ without a battery. Other wall plug adapters may damage the energizer and/or battery.
To Reduce Risk & Liability
- Never place your head or upper spine near an electrified wire. Accidental head or neck contact can occur when pushing a voltage probe into the soil. Be careful when doing so to avoid head-to-wire contact!
- Never attempt to step over or climb through an energized fence of any kind.
- Never encourage anyone to touch an electric fence.
Troubleshooting
Start by measuring the voltage at the end of the fence line. If the voltage is below 3000V, follow these steps to determine if the problem is with the fence, or the energizer.
Test the energizer first!
- Turn off the energizer.
- Disconnect the wires going to the fence and ground stake/rod.
- Turn the energizer back on.
- Measure the voltage on the energizer between the two terminals (positive and negative) with a fence voltmeter or other high-voltage tester. Touch one end to “-“ (earth terminal) and the other end to “+” (fence terminal). The reading tells you how well the energizer is working without any other variables.
- If the tester reads below 5000V, then the energizer (or possibly the battery) is the problem. If the voltage is above 5000V, then the trouble lies with your fence.
If the energizer is at fault:
- Test the battery with a low-voltage tester; recharge if lower than 12.2 volts
- Check the grounding system
If the fence is at fault:
- Conductors touching another wire, steel post or the soil
- Broken or damaged insulators
Storage
Tips to preserve battery life:
- Turn off the unit. Disconnecting the unit from the fence is not sufficient, the unit will still pulse unless it is turned off.
- Clean off the solar panel. Dust and debris may have accumulated during use and as a result prevents the panel from maximum electrical production.
- When the energizer is not being used, store the unit indoors at room temperature and out of the sun.
- When not in use, ensure the battery stays above 40% charged. Lead acid batteries don’t work well when they’re left discharged, or at a low charge, for long periods of time. Periodically recharge the battery in the sun or with the included 110V charging unit. Stop charging when the battery tests between 12.6V and 13.4V. Do not overcharge the battery.

Excellent product and customer service!
Kaylin H from Indiana
I reached out to customer service for recommendations of which fence energizer I should buy to go with the fence I purchased from Premier 1 many years ago. They promptly recommended the SolarStop 80.
It arrived quickly, and in great shape. It was super straightforward to set up. The instructions manual is really clear and easy to comprehend. The energizer itself is seemingly a very nice design, well put together from what I can tell after about a week of use. Most importantly, it’s keeping my miniature goats safely fenced!
Anthony R from West Virginia
So far, so good. Setup is exactly like the video, but so simple and intuitive you can do it without directions. Works great! I like the dual modes and especially the fact that it has about 30–40° of rotation when mounted on a T-post.
Michael M from Maine
Can’t really rate right now—I’m new to the electric poultry netting world and this is my first experience. The ordering process was smooth and easy.
I have called and spoken to different representatives at Premier 1 who answered the questions I had about setting up the energizer. That has gone well.
More later.

Excellent product. Durable and easily moved. However, during periods of rain combined with overcast days, the unit voltage should be carefully monitored, even on much shorter fence lengths than are specified.
