How to Use
Winter Use
If you're not using your PRS unit during the winter follow these tips to preserve battery life:
If you're planning on using your PRS unit during the winter months, follow these helpful hints:
To use light tester WITHOUT ground probe
For Fence:- Touch the top of the tester to the electrified fence you wish to test.
- Push the button (if applicable).
- The tester will light up according to the voltage at that location on the fence.
- Turn off energizer.
- Disconnect ground wire and fence wire from energizer.
- Turn on energizer.
- Touch the top of the tester onto the top of the fence terminal on the energizer.
- Push the button (if applicable).
- The tester should light up to 6000 volts or more.
To use light tester WITH ground probe
For Fence:- Insert the probe of the tester into the soil.
- Remove your hand from the metal portion of the probe (to avoid a shock).
- To get a voltage reading, touch the metal clip (on the top of the tester) to the electrified fence you wish to test.
- The tester will light up according to the voltage at that location on the fence.
- Remove the tester from the fence and the probe from the soil. Do not remove the probe by pulling the insulated wire.
- Turn off energizer.
- Disconnect ground wire and fence wire from energizer.
- Turn on energizer.
- Touch probe from tester to ground terminal on energizer (be sure to hold onto the insulated wire and not the metal probe!)
- At same time touch the fence hook on tester to fence terminal on energizer.
- The tester should light up to 6000 volts or more.
Troubleshooting
Start by measuring the voltage at the end of the fence line. If the voltage is below 3000V, follow these steps to determine if the problem is with the fence, or the energizer.
Test the energizer first!
- Turn off the energizer.
- Disconnect the wires going to the fence and ground stake/rod.
- Turn the energizer back on.
- Measure the voltage on the energizer between the two terminals (positive and negative) with a digital voltmeter or other high-voltage tester. Touch one end to “-“ (earth terminal) and the other end to “+” (fence terminal). The reading tells you how well the energizer is working without any other variables.
- If the tester reads below 5000V, then the energizer (or possibly the battery) is the problem. If the voltage is above 5000V, then the trouble lies with your fence.
If the energizer is at fault:
- Test the battery with a low-voltage tester; recharge if lower than 12.2 volts
- Check the grounding system
If the fence is at fault:
- Conductors touching another wire, steel post or the soil
- Broken or damaged insulators
Precautions
- Make sure the power is turned off before working on the fence or the energizer.
- Make sure the fence line is clear of grass and debris that may lower the fence’s voltage.
- Ensure the solar panel is facing due south and avoid placing the unit where it may be covered by shadows from trees, bushes or tall grass.
- Regularly remove all debris from the solar panel.
- Batteries that are less than 40% charged may become damaged. Batteries MUST remain fully charged in freezing conditions.
To Reduce Risk & Liability
- Never place your head or upper spine near an electrified wire. Accidental head or neck contact can occur when pushing a voltage probe into the soil. Be careful when doing so to avoid head-to-wire contact!
- Never attempt to step over or climb through an energized fence of any kind.
- Never encourage anyone to touch an electric fence.
Warranty
30-day warranty for all batteries.

We have been using this unit for several months now to power the bear fence to protect our bee hives. I have been very pleased with the product and the customer support from Premier1. And, so far it has kept the black bears out of the bees. And there was recently a pile of evidence that they were within a short distance of the hives.
One thing with solar chargers is that our hive is near some trees for summer shading- as the days have gotten shorter, so has charging time. I recently bought the batter recharger from Premier1 and would suggest purchasing that accessory as well to top off the battery when needed.

So far, this energizer is doing a great job. We have a PRS 50 for our laying hens with poultry netting, but I wanted something a little stronger for our hogs.
I have this connected to 400' of pig quick fence. I am getting 5000V consistently on all sections of the fence and the hogs won't even think about touching it.
Very pleased so far.
I am a little concerned that this does not have an option to plug it in if the battery was to go dead with multiple days of overcast. Hope that will never be a problem.

I use this with our feather netting. Arrived in perfect condition, was easy to setup and works great in my pasture.

Wow! This 100 Solar Energizer is fantastic! I ordered one about 3 months ago and used it with the Permanet Fence to keep my dogs in the yard and off the highway! It was super easy to set up and started working right away! I love the on/off switch that makes it easy to enter the pen and know that the fence is off. It works so well keeping the dogs in! Also, I think Premier sits at the end of the driveway and waits for my order as they are FAST at delivering within two days! WOW! I just recently ordered two more 100 Solar energizers because it affords me the ability to move my fences where ever I want . I bought the stationary electric fencers but I needed more flexibility that the solar affords. I love how easy it was to set up and you can tell the QUALITY with the solid metal box that when you lift it that it is made with quality products. Love the handle to carry and metal outside box and easy open metal clips. I have (older) sisters that LOVE their products too thus they told me that these products would solve my fencing issues. THEY HAVE! Also, Premier has been excellent at quickly answering my questions about the products. I am the proud owner of 3 of the 100 solar energizer. No, I don't work for Premier but am a BIG fan of their products as they FIXED my needs for dog containment as I can't have my dogs playing on the highway! Thanks Premier for solving a big fencing issue I needed to solve!
Now, can you solve the driveway fencing issue so I can fence across my driveway? Thanks again!

I live in rainy northwest Oregon and this charger kept my goats safe all winter, even with little to no direct sun for months on end. I am very impressed with its capabilities and ease of use. I expected to have trouble getting a good charge during all the dark days, but it was consistently effective.
