First time shearing sheep started with the metal cutter and felt that something didn’t work quite well. Changed the cutter to ceramic (ordered together with the main devise ), and all fell in place. If you are beginner, don’t even buy the metal one. You will end up with ceramic anyway.

I wouldn’t bother with any other cutter, especially if you are new to shearing. I read a few reviews where people said that they started with metal cutter and it was hard until they changed to ceramic. Same thing happened to us. We used metal first and then ceramic with a 13T and it went effortlessly, although I made a few cuts into sheep skin. After that ordered 21T and getting ready to try.

The ceramic cutter is the way to go for me they last a lot longer cooler just keep oiled and I also use air to keep everything clean.
The only down fall is they don't resharpen them when that happens they will be the perfect cutter.

Only in an emergency will I use metal cutters again, I have three or four sharp ones, I keep in reserve. I started using the ceramic cutters last year. First time use I was able to shear 16 alpacas on one set (new cutter - resharpened comb) I was impressed. Follow up sets not quite as good but still better than metal. I was able to shear 53 alpacas laced with New Mexico sandy dirt with 4 ceramic cutters and 7 combs, (two machines helped to keep blades sets cooler. that's an average of over 13 per cutter. I'm good with that.

Just an update: I have switched exclusively to using this cutter and resharpening I do on progressively finer diamond hones and with no loss in performance. Still getting over 20 alpaca on one cutter. Works fine with my old style LGS machine but not the new style due to the softer plastic drive gear. But I still love these cutters.
