A prefabricated fence that has 12 horizontal twines (11 conductive); is 48" tall installed, and has string verticals every 3". Keeps in chickens, ducks, geese and other poultry while keeping their ground based predators out.

White PVC posts are built into the mesh every 13.6 ft. The result, when energized properly, is a nearly impenetrable mesh to sheep, goats, coyotes and dogs.

How does it compare to PoultryNet?

  • Has 10 times more electrical resistance (380 Ω/1000 ft) so it's less suited for fences more than 1000 ft long.
  • Not as easy to handle during removal and installation (longer length between posts means more material to fold/roll).
  • Yellow color not as visible in light/dark situations as white/black.

Common Uses

  • To contain and control the movement of chickens, ducks and other poultry.
  • To prevent raccoons, coyotes, foxes, bears, dogs and other nonflying predators from killing poultry.
  • To rotate poultry to fresh grass and to reduce disease risks.

We’re aware that the lower price of Chicken Net encourages folks to choose this version. Think carefully before you do so. Customers who are unhappy with netting are often those who’ve chosen Chicken Net or its farmstore equivalents. Why do we offer it? Because it is similar in specifications to nets from other sources—and comparisons make decisions easier. If unsure, give us a call at 800-282-6631 and ask to speak to fence consultant.

Installation

The same “unroll and then unfold” process applies to all electrified nets. Minimal strength or skill needed (and no tools). Extra supports such as FiberTuff™ step-in posts are useful at corners, curves and ends. You will need a fence energizer to electrify the net.

See PDFs and videos above for additional installation instructions.

Precautions

For hard soils, we prefer to use Drivable PoultryNet. Its stiffer posts, longer spike and hardened cap allow it to be driven into hard soils via a mallet—a much better choice for tough soil. Prior to Drivable nets, for hard soils we would pre-drill the holes for the spike with a 3/8" bit.

This is a pain barrier, not a physical barrier. If animals are scared or starved it will not keep them in.

It is best to have animals trained to electric fencing before you turn them out in the net only. The first time you put the animals in the net, you should be available to watch them for a while. That way if one were to get into the fence and get caught, you can turn the power off and get them loose.

It has 380 ohms of resistance instead of 38 like PoultryNet. It’s not advised for fences longer than 2 to 3 nets.

We’re aware that the lower price of this net will encourage folks to choose this version. Think carefully before you do. Customers who are unhappy with netting are often those who’ve chosen its farmstore/catalog equivalents. So why do we offer it? Because it is similar to nets from other sources—and comparisons make decisions easier. If unsure, give us a call at 800-282-6631 and ask to speak to consultant. They will help you make the optimal netting choice for your fencing needs.

Use only with a low or wide impedance intermittent pulse energizer.

Warning! Do NOT use continuous output energizers with electric netting due to risk of fire. (Fi-Shock™ brand energizers which are sold as low impedance, continuous current output should NOT be used with electric netting.) All energizers sold on Premier's website use an intermittent pulse and are suitable for use with electric netting.

Dry conditions and wintertime usage may reduce the effectiveness of electric fencing.

Dry or frozen ground many cause the NetPost spikes to bend or break if inserted with force. Pilot holes may be needed.

Troubleshooting

If the voltage drops below 3000V on the net, you need to turn off the energizer and unhook the net from the energizer. Test just the energizer by itself. If the voltage is 5000V or higher on the energizer the problem is in the net. The most common problem is that the lowest 'hot' strand has been caught around one of the metal spikes on the posts and is shorting it out. The net must be at least 2" away from anything metal (metal posts, existing fences, spikes on support posts).

Warranty

With proper care, netting should last 5-7 years. Replacements will be prorated.

BUYER BEWARE!!! Save your time and money before ordering this product! The polls are so cheaply made that within a few days they are laying on the ground. Instructions even have a note in there for how you can reinforce them. You should not have to spend $180 on a product to have to turn around and spend more money to reinforce poles. To make a return, do you have to spend another $30 on a box that it will fit into because there is no way you will ever get it rolled up and put back in the original box. When calling customer service all you will get is excuses and then telling you it’s your fault it does not work. Customer service representatives act like you were an idiot and don’t know how to hook up an electric fence.

This is my 4th electric netting I’ve purchased from Premier 1. I use it for temporary fencing for goats, cattle and a mini mule. I like the height of this net and the smaller holes. What I do not like is the massive sagging within 24 hours. I had to purchase extra posts to put in between the netting posts to keep the net working.

SagStoppers may help. They provide vertical tension to help reduce sagging between the built-in line posts. As an alternative, look to PoultryNet. PoultryNet has options with shorter distances between line posts. — Premier

Net itself is great, but the posts are much too flimsy for the height of the net. They are unable to keep the net tight. I ended up having to add posts to keep the net held up.

About Conductivity

Conductivity measures the amount of electrical current a material can carry. The opposite measure is known as resistance.

Tinned Copper Superconductor

Many of Premier’s electric net fences feature a green and white superconductor that has both stainless steel and tinned copper filaments for optimal conductivity.

These “premium” nets are 10 times more conductive (38 ohms per 1000') than “basic” nets offered by our competitors. This enables the electric pulse to travel much farther and be less affected by weed contact.

Customers who are unhappy with netting are often those who’ve chosen nets from China or their farmstore equivalents.

Types of Line Posts

Line posts are built into the net. Three options are available.*

Line Posts Compared
  1. Single Spike (SS)
The best choice, unless your soils are always soft or very hard.
  2. Double Spike (DS)
Posts allow you to push in the spikes with your foot. When soil is hard or rocky, double spikes are more difficult to install and remove.
  3. Drivable Posts (DP)
Allows use of a mallet or dead blow hammer for installing posts in dry, hard or rocky soil. Features a “spike stop” for extra support and internal fiberglass ribs for added strength.

Tip: To insert a line post into frozen or hard soil, use a power tool to drill pilot holes.

* Not all fences have all line post options.

About Positive/Negative (Pos/Neg) Nets

Is your area dry?

Conventional electrified fence systems rely on soil moisture to be effective. However, not all areas have the required moisture.

Dry soil increases resistance—a weaker, less effective pulse occurs that does not deter animals.

To overcome this, Pos/Neg nets* are wired to allow the use of every other horizontal strand as an extension of the ground terminal. Because half the strands are connected to the ground terminal or ground rod, reliance on soil moisture is reduced. A PowerLink must be purchased separately to make the secondary ground connection.

How it works…

In order to receive a shock, the animal must touch both a positive (hot) and negative (grounded) strand at the same time. This will deliver more pain to the animal than an all hot net (Pos/Pos) because moisture in the soil is not required to complete the circuit.

Pos/Neg fences can be converted to Pos/Pos in moist conditions. Remember, all fences must be kept free of vegetation.

* Not all fences have Pos/Neg options.

Line Post Spacing

“Plus” nets—6'8" spacings between built-in line posts*

Line Post Spacing

Standard nets—10' or 12' spacings between built-in line posts*

* Spacings are approximate.
Distance between built-in line posts may vary by product.

Essential Energizer Advice

  • Buy a larger energizer than necessary. When the fence pleases, most folks will buy more fence—and need additional output.
  • Use a low-impedance intermittent pulse energizer.
  • Use a fence tester to check the voltage often.
  • Use enough ground rod(s)—included with our energizer kits.
  • Don’t allow your lead acid battery to discharge below 40%.
  • Use insulated wire that is designed for electric fences.
  • Always connect the fence to an energizer, not an outlet.
  • Visit this link for answers to other common energizer questions.

Two Basic Types

  1. All-in-one Solar
    • Solar units are very portable.
    • Because they need a battery, these units are more costly to purchase and operate than plug-in units.
    • Batteries are less effective in cold temperatures (deplete faster).
    • Most farmstore solar units are too weak, in joules of output, to properly energize netting. That’s why we designed our own.
  2. Plug-in & Battery
    • Least cost to purchase and operate per joule of output.
    • Best for fences exposed to heavy vegetation.
    • Cold temperatures do not affect performance.
    • Recommended for whole-farm systems, but can be complex to install. Higher output requires more ground rods, underground cables, multiple output terminals, etc.

Braided vs. Twisted

Braiding instead of twisting the horizontals increases the frequency of metal filaments on the outside of the strand.

Braided vs. Twisted Electric Net Fences

What’s the benefit?

  1. More metal is exposed on the outside of the strand. This enables improved animal to conductor contact. The electric pulse is better able to travel from the fence and into the animal, resulting in a memorable shock.
  2. A tighter, braided weave results in fewer snags when carried or pulled through pastures, reducing frustration.
