Benefits

Starter kit contains all the essentials to fence a small flock of birds.

Netting is quick and simple to move. Even for new users, it takes less than 10 minutes to go from out-of-the-box netting to installed fence.

Common Uses

  • Contain and control the movement of chickens, ducks and other poultry on a daily or weekly basis
  • Rotate poultry to fresh grass as a food source and to reduce disease risks
  • Keep small flocks in the backyard. When managed well, chickens are an indispensable garden tool—turning pesky insects and weeds into rich compost.
  • Keeps out deer, bears, raccoons, rabbits, foxes, coyotes, stray dogs and skunks
  • Can be used to contain and control livestock other than poultry, such as sheep, goats, cattle and guard dogs

Specs

Starter Kit includes:

PoultryNet® Plus 12/48/3
100 ft length, 48" tall electrifiable prefabricated fence. It arrives at your door as a complete roll with the double spike posts already built into the mesh/fence. Features 12 horizontal strands (11 electrified) with vertical struts placed every 3". “Plus” nets include additional line posts spaced every 6'8" to reduce sag.
FiberTuff™ Posts
(4) fiberglass-reinforced support posts for ends, corners and major directional changes. Use at ends to help maintain tension on the fence.
SolarStop™ 80
Solar powered 0.8 joule fence energizer. Will electrify 3–5 rolls of electric netting depending on soil conditions and vegetation. Includes 12V 12Ah battery, wiring harness and 10 watt solar panel.
T Ground Rod
18" ground rod guides the pulse from the soil, back into the energizer.
Fence & Battery Digital Tester
For testing fence voltage and 12V battery voltage. At the end of the net, the voltage should measure at least 3,000V. Premier’s fence troubleshooting guide may help solve common problems.

Installation

Ensure the net is at least 2" away from anything metal (e.g. T-posts, existing wire fences, spikes on support posts, etc.)

Consult the linked products or watch the videos above for additional installation instructions.

Tips

100' of netting creates a 25' x 25' enclosure. Add additional rolls to create larger paddocks. At each end of the net is a built-in, stainless-steel male/female clip. Slide these clips together to make a connection.

An electric fence does NOT have to make a circle. You can overlap the fences or make a U-turn.

Visit this link for answers to other common fencing questions.

How to Manage Excess Netting
“I’ve set up my fence but there’s more than I need. What do I do?” This video demonstrates our preferred methods of working with excess netting.

Precautions

PoultryNet® is not effective with baby chicks that are small enough to crawl through the net openings and therefore are not deterred by the electric shock.

Electric fence is a pain barrier, not a physical barrier. A common mistake is not electrifying it. Animals may escape or become entangled (and may die). On a % basis, entanglement is very rare, but it can and does occur. If animals are scared or starved it will not keep them in. The first time you put the animals in the net, you should be available to watch them for a while. That way if one were to get into the fence and get caught, you can turn the power off and get them loose.

Netting must be moved when tall grass covers the lower “hot” strands. The alternative? Apply a strip of herbicide to kill vegetation.

Warning! Due to risk of fire, do NOT use continuous output energizers with electric netting or electro-plastic conductors such as rope, twine or tape. Use only with a low or wide impedance intermittent pulse energizer. (Fi-Shock™ brand energizers which are sold as low impedance, continuous current output should NOT be used with electric netting.) All energizers sold on Premier’s website use an intermittent pulse and are suitable for use with electric netting.

Dry conditions and wintertime usage may reduce the effectiveness of electric fencing. Ice and heavy snow can flatten netting and thereby damage it.

Dry or frozen ground may cause posts to bend or break if inserted with force. Pilot holes may be needed. We recommend using drivable or single spike posts in hard soils. Double spike posts provide more stability when the ground is soft.

Warranty

With proper care, electric netting should last 5–7 years. Replacements will be prorated.

3-year warranty for energizers and solar panels cover lightning damage and defective parts or workmanship. Should an energizer fail, we will replace the unit, bill you for the cost to do so, then reimburse you for warranted expenses after we have examined the failed unit. Misuse and flood damage are not covered.

30-day warranty for all batteries.

Makenna A from Missouri

Ordered because it came very highly recommended. While very expensive, the material is high quality. I believe our fence in particular has faulty wiring and strands but not sure it worth the hassle of return. Lost a chicken, pulled through the fence on the second night. Solar box is a bit flimsy feeling but it does charge well. Instructions could stand to be more thoroughly written. Not entirely sure it’s completely worth the hype. And sad that their best products are out of stock very long term, but what’s not nowadays? Glad to support a company that’s supports HOA.

The fence came quickly and in good condition. It works well and was simple to install around my wooded location. The reason I am putting 3 stars isn’t for the quality of the product but for receiving the wrong energizer. This product is supposed to come with the SolarStop 80 but I received the Solar IntelliShock 60.

Bought this for a runaway bird or two. The little ones can slip out the spacings, but not the big berthas. Arrived so fast I couldn’t believe it. Keep an eye on the tracking because these guys are quick!

Not a normal use, after a hurricane destroyed our home we moved into a rental with no fenced yard for the dogs, this product proved to be the perfect short term solution in the sandy Florida soil! The dogs learned quickly and now can roam within the fence to thier hearts content and we don’t have to worry about them running off.

If it keeps dogs in, it’s bound to keep them out too!

About Conductivity

Conductivity measures the amount of electrical current a material can carry. The opposite measure is known as resistance.

Tinned Copper Superconductor

Many of Premier’s electric net fences feature a green and white superconductor that has both stainless steel and tinned copper filaments for optimal conductivity.

These “premium” nets are 10 times more conductive (38 ohms per 1000') than “basic” nets offered by our competitors. This enables the electric pulse to travel much farther and be less affected by weed contact.

Customers who are unhappy with netting are often those who’ve chosen nets from China or their farmstore equivalents.

Types of Line Posts

Line posts are built into the net. Three options are available.*

Line Posts Compared
  1. Single Spike (SS)
The best choice, unless your soils are always soft or very hard.
  2. Double Spike (DS)
Posts allow you to push in the spikes with your foot. When soil is hard or rocky, double spikes are more difficult to install and remove.
  3. Drivable Posts (DP)
Allows use of a mallet or dead blow hammer for installing posts in dry, hard or rocky soil. Features a “spike stop” for extra support and internal fiberglass ribs for added strength.

Tip: To insert a line post into frozen or hard soil, use a power tool to drill pilot holes.

* Not all fences have all line post options.

About Positive/Negative (Pos/Neg) Nets

Is your area dry?

Conventional electrified fence systems rely on soil moisture to be effective. However, not all areas have the required moisture.

Dry soil increases resistance—a weaker, less effective pulse occurs that does not deter animals.

To overcome this, Pos/Neg nets* are wired to allow the use of every other horizontal strand as an extension of the ground terminal. Because half the strands are connected to the ground terminal or ground rod, reliance on soil moisture is reduced. A PowerLink must be purchased separately to make the secondary ground connection.

How it works…

In order to receive a shock, the animal must touch both a positive (hot) and negative (grounded) strand at the same time. This will deliver more pain to the animal than an all hot net (Pos/Pos) because moisture in the soil is not required to complete the circuit.

Pos/Neg fences can be converted to Pos/Pos in moist conditions. Remember, all fences must be kept free of vegetation.

* Not all fences have Pos/Neg options.

Line Post Spacing

“Plus” nets—6'8" spacings between built-in line posts*

Line Post Spacing

Standard nets—10' or 12' spacings between built-in line posts*

* Spacings are approximate.
Distance between built-in line posts may vary by product.

Essential Energizer Advice

  • Buy a larger energizer than necessary. When the fence pleases, most folks will buy more fence—and need additional output.
  • Use a low-impedance intermittent pulse energizer.
  • Use a fence tester to check the voltage often.
  • Use enough ground rod(s)—included with our energizer kits.
  • Don’t allow your lead acid battery to discharge below 40%.
  • Use insulated wire that is designed for electric fences.
  • Always connect the fence to an energizer, not an outlet.
  • Visit this link for answers to other common energizer questions.

Two Basic Types

  1. All-in-one Solar
    • Solar units are very portable.
    • Because they need a battery, these units are more costly to purchase and operate than plug-in units.
    • Batteries are less effective in cold temperatures (deplete faster).
    • Most farmstore solar units are too weak, in joules of output, to properly energize netting. That’s why we designed our own.
  2. Plug-in & Battery
    • Least cost to purchase and operate per joule of output.
    • Best for fences exposed to heavy vegetation.
    • Cold temperatures do not affect performance.
    • Recommended for whole-farm systems, but can be complex to install. Higher output requires more ground rods, underground cables, multiple output terminals, etc.

Braided vs. Twisted

Braiding instead of twisting the horizontals increases the frequency of metal filaments on the outside of the strand.

Braided vs. Twisted Electric Net Fences

What’s the benefit?

  1. More metal is exposed on the outside of the strand. This enables improved animal to conductor contact. The electric pulse is better able to travel from the fence and into the animal, resulting in a memorable shock.
  2. A tighter, braided weave results in fewer snags when carried or pulled through pastures, reducing frustration.
