PoultryNet® Plus 12/48/3 (Plug-in) Starter Kit
Product Details
A complete fencing solution! Contain your chickens and protect them from ground-based predators such as foxes, coyotes and dogs. 48" tall, installed.
Starter Kit includes:
- 100 ft roll of 48" tall PoultryNet® Plus electric netting
- (4) 48" FiberTuff™ support posts
- Patriot P10 plug-in fence energizer
- 100 ft roll of MaxiShock Double Insulated Cable
- Fence & Battery Digital Tester
If your fence is near an electrical outlet, a plug-in energizer will power more fence for less $$ (vs. solar units). But they are a bit more work initially—due to the need for lead-out wires or underground cables.
In addition to being easier on the pocketbook, plug-in energizers are often more reliable. Why? Because they don’t depend on consecutive sunny days to recharge.

Benefits
Netting is quick and simple to move. Even for new users, it takes less than 10 minutes to go from out-of-the-box netting to installed fence.
Common Uses
- Contain and control the movement of chickens, ducks and other poultry on a daily or weekly basis
- Rotate poultry to fresh grass as a food source and to reduce disease risks
- Keep small flocks in the backyard. When managed well, chickens are an indispensable garden tool—turning pesky insects and weeds into rich compost.
- Keeps out deer, bears, raccoons, rabbits, foxes, coyotes, stray dogs and skunks
- Can be used to contain and control livestock other than poultry, such as sheep, goats, cattle and guard dogs
Specs
Starter Kit includes:
- PoultryNet® Plus 12/48/3
- 100 ft length, 48" tall electrifiable prefabricated fence. It arrives at your door as a complete roll with the double spike posts already built into the mesh/fence. Features 12 horizontal strands (11 electrified) with vertical struts placed every 3". “Plus” nets include additional line posts spaced every 6'8" to reduce sag.
- FiberTuff™ Posts
- (4) fiberglass-reinforced support posts for ends, corners and major directional changes. Use at ends to help maintain tension on the fence.
- Patriot P10 Fence Energizer
- 1.0J output fence energizer. Will electrify 4–5 rolls of electric netting depending on soil conditions and vegetation. Simply plug unit into a 110V wall outlet. Can also be connected to an external 12V battery (sold separately). Includes a 110V adapter/charger and 12V DC leads.
- Ground Rod and Clamp
- 3' ground rod guides the pulse from the soil, back into the energizer. Use the included stainless steel clamp to attach insulated wire to the ground rod.
- MaxiShock Double-Insulated Cable
- Connects the energizer to the fence and grounding system. 100 ft length of cable included.
- Fence & Battery Digital Tester
- For testing fence voltage and 12V battery voltage. At the end of the net, the voltage should measure at least 3,000V. Premier’s fence troubleshooting guide may help solve common problems.
Installation
The energizer must be mounted vertically. Mount either inside or outside of a building, but protected from snow, ice and rain. The 110V adapter is NOT waterproof.
- Connect an insulated cable (stripped back 1–2" on ends) to the fence terminal on energizer, run the cable to the fence line and connect, or use the positive part of the wiring harness.
- Then run a second length of cable from the ground terminal (with ends stripped again) on the energizer to the ground rod(s), or use the negative part of the wiring harness.
- Secure to ground rod(s) with a clamp.
- Plug the energizer directly into an outlet and test fence. Do not use an extension cord as it may cause a decrease in voltage and expose the power supply to the elements.
Consult the linked products or watch the videos above for additional installation instructions.
Tips
An electric fence does NOT have to make a circle. You can overlap the fences or make a U-turn.
Visit this link for answers to other common fencing questions.
Precautions
Electric fence is a pain barrier, not a physical barrier. A common mistake is not electrifying it. Animals may escape or become entangled (and may die). On a % basis, entanglement is very rare, but it can and does occur. If animals are scared or starved it will not keep them in. The first time you put the animals in the net, you should be available to watch them for a while. That way if one were to get into the fence and get caught, you can turn the power off and get them loose.
Netting must be moved when tall grass covers the lower “hot” strands. The alternative? Apply a strip of herbicide to kill vegetation.
Warning! Due to risk of fire, do NOT use continuous output energizers with electric netting or electro-plastic conductors such as rope, twine or tape. Use only with a low or wide impedance intermittent pulse energizer. (Fi-Shock™ brand energizers which are sold as low impedance, continuous current output should NOT be used with electric netting.) All energizers sold on Premier’s website use an intermittent pulse and are suitable for use with electric netting.
Dry conditions and wintertime usage may reduce the effectiveness of electric fencing. Ice and heavy snow can flatten netting and thereby damage it.
Dry or frozen ground may cause posts to bend or break if inserted with force. Pilot holes may be needed. We recommend using drivable or single spike posts in hard soils. Double spike posts provide more stability when the ground is soft.
Warranty
3-year warranty for energizers include lightning damage and defective parts or workmanship. Should an energizer fail, we will replace the unit, bill you for the cost to do so, then reimburse you for warranted expenses after we have examined the failed unit. Misuse and flood damage are not covered.

Set up is pretty easy, but I wish it was clearer that the “starter kit” doesn’t include everything you need to get started. With this setup, a separate cable connector is required to connect the P10 energizer to the fence.

I was exploring alternatives to free ranging my chickens after too many predator attacks. This seemed to be the best compromise of freedom versus safety, so I installed the 48" plug-in kit around a 12x24 chicken house a couple weeks ago (34 chickens). It's much sturdier than I was expecting, which is nice. Seems to be good quality. It's easy to set up and easy enough to move around to give fresh pasture, even with my very rugged and uneven mountain terrain. I would order a few extra FiberTuff support poles if you have very uneven terrain like I do. Will be ordering another roll or two to connect to the kit after seeing the high quality of the fence.

Great product! I was having issues with wildlife destroying my vegetable garden. I called and the representative walked me through everything I needed. Then when I had a technical question, they were happy to help. This easy-to-install fence has saved my vegetable garden and made it worry-free. My son has the same fence, which he uses for his chickens and loves it. He moves it constantly and never has an issue.

Turkeys got caught in it twice. The second one died, it was pretty gruesome.
We do our best to educate customers through our catalogs, website, and installation instructions that entanglement with electric netting is a risk, particularly if the fence is not properly energized. Electric fences are designed to function as a pain deterrent, not a physical barrier. Animals must learn that the fence itself is painful and then avoid it. When an electric fence is not energized, it can become a hazard rather than a deterrent.

Very complete kit with good directions and a great video for help—I did it completely by myself.
