Benefits

  • Rarely slows down under load.
  • Plows through fiber. Drives shear head with equal power.
  • Motor is smaller in size, lighter in weight and shorter in length than any other large clipper.

Common Uses

  1. Slick shearing show sheep
  2. Clipping meat and dairy goats
  3. Shaving or peeling beef & dairy cattle
  4. Clipping llamas and alpacas
  5. Clipping horses
  6. Clipping show pigs
  7. Clipping ranch dogs
  8. They've also been used to cut imitation turf

Use with our large blade sets.

Specs

  • 110 volt
  • Quieter. Less motor "whine", kind to your ears and less likely to upset animals.
  • 2700 strokes per minute cutting speed
  • Permanent rare-earth magnet motor enable more torque (power) and require less space and weight than ordinary motors. Less heat is produced by the permanent magnet motor and the fan forces air forward through our heads—so the heads run 20°F cooler.
  • Up to 20% shorter in length than other motors
  • Weighs up to 15% less than other motors
  • Smaller grip than other motors
  • Sleek, low-profile ribs makes it easier to grip the tension knob
  • Shorter tension bolt equals fewer turns needed to reset tension, so you spend less time changing and tensioning blades
  • Internal roller bearings instead of bushings (less heat, less wear and greater longevity)
  • Stainless steel inserts that are riveted in reduce the possibility of the inserts becoming loose
  • Round steel drive in place of a plastic bushing makes fitting the top blade easier
  • Includes 2 screws for attaching to motor
  • Motor has a 16 ft electrical cord
  • Only 3 minutes to change a clipper head to shear head
  • Will drive Premier and Lister® clipper blades
  • Designed and assembled in USA from domestic and foreign parts

Tips

Preparing the Animal for Clipping

  • Remove the dirt from the hair first. If this is not done, expect accelerated blade wear and a reduction in animals clipped between blade sharpenings in exact proportion to the amount of dirt present. The benefits of dirt removal prior to clipping cannot be over-emphasized. Example: Those who wash their lambs prior to clipping often clip 20–30 club lambs between sharpenings (if the blades have been sharpened properly on a lapping machine). Those who don’t and have lambs with sand and soil in the wool often clip less than two lambs between sharpenings.
  • Washing the animal with soap and water removes the most dirt. If this is not practical, use a high power vacuum or blower to remove as much dirt as possible from the hair or wool.
  • Restrain the animal. Few animals like the sound of a clipper or the feel of vibration on their skin. When they react to either without warning, accidents can and will happen. Therefore, for the sake of you, your animal and your clipper, restrain the animal properly prior to clipping.

Precautions

We are no longer converting machines to 220V.

Failure to oil as often as recommended may lead to excess heat and premature wear and tear.

Warning: Unlike some other clipper motors, this motor will neither slow down nor sound different when oil is needed. But failure to oil will quickly cause damage to the blades and drive head. So you MUST apply oil by time instead of sound. Apply a small amount of oil every 3 minutes to the tips of the teeth and each side of the blade by dipping them into a dish of oil or pouring oil directly onto the teeth with a small oil container and every 10 minutes drip oil into the small hole behind the tension knob assembly. Excessive wear can occur if not oiled properly!

Warning: Risk of electrical shock—Connect only to a branch circuit protected by a ground-fault circuit-interrupter (GFCI). Contact a qualified electrician if you cannot verify that the circuit is protected by a GFCI.

Warranty

Covers all labor and parts for 3 years from the date of purchase. 2 years longer than any competing unit! Abuse (e.g. dropping it) and neglect (e.g. failure to oil frequently enough) are not covered.

Listed below are recommended optional components or related items. Your particular situation may require alternative recommendations. Please call and talk to our consultants if there are any questions at 800-282-6631.

We just purchasd the Premier 4000C clippers for our children who are beginning to show 4H and open shows. They are so easy for the kids to handle since they are lightweight and stay cool while running. Our daughter is able to slick shear her show lambs all by herself, which is less work for mom & dad. We absolutely love these clippers!!!

My 10 year old who runs our Nigerian Dwarf show/dairy breeding business here at Flying G Farm was so excited to receive the clippers. We researched them and expected them to be the best. We bought them after borrowing my sister's clippers, which broke before the first goat was finished. I was glad to hear from Sara at Premier that the Premier clippers did not require a blade wash or oil bath. I was surprised how well our 2 does did with the clipping process, and it seemed hard to nick them. The large clippers were a little unwieldy on the head area, and around the lower legs, but perhaps a good grooming table to properly restrain the animals will help for this. It was so fun to clip, that I am sure we will be clipping all the other goats just for fun. Besides, it keeps them cool in the heat and prevents lice, and we will each get to have our turn with the clipper. The clippers were no problem to oil and use, except we might like the premier oil bottle to have a narrow tip to fit the oil hole. We had to use W D 40 with the red straw attached to oil the gears. The on off switch shuts off by itself sometimes, but it is important to have the switch handy, as it is better for the blades if the clipper is off. I think we will use earplugs with the clippers, but might check w/ customer service and make sure everything sounds all right, and that I have the tension adjusted right.

We've always had someone shear our 19 Llamas but this year our shearer was sick. After talking with others about what they recommended, the Premier 4000C Clippers were mentioned several times. We purchased these clippers and they have met my needs perfectly. They are much lighter in weight than other clippers and the blades are very easy to change out. I guess you'd call them "user friendly" clippers. The online instructional video was also very helpful. I would highly recommend this product!

I bought this as a gift for my sister who has a couple of llamas and some sheep. She loves it and it does exactly what she needs it to do - keep the animals cool in the Texas heat. She did note that it would be helpful to have an extra set of blades as it speeds up getting things done.

About Conductivity

Conductivity measures the amount of electrical current a material can carry. The opposite measure is known as resistance.

Tinned Copper Superconductor

Many of Premier’s electric net fences feature a green and white superconductor that has both stainless steel and tinned copper filaments for optimal conductivity.

These “premium” nets are 10 times more conductive (38 ohms per 1000') than “basic” nets offered by our competitors. This enables the electric pulse to travel much farther and be less affected by weed contact.

Customers who are unhappy with netting are often those who’ve chosen nets from China or their farmstore equivalents.

Types of Line Posts

Line posts are built into the net. Three options are available.*

Line Posts Compared
  1. Single Spike (SS)
The best choice, unless your soils are always soft or very hard.
  2. Double Spike (DS)
Posts allow you to push in the spikes with your foot. When soil is hard or rocky, double spikes are more difficult to install and remove.
  3. Drivable Posts (DP)
Allows use of a mallet or dead blow hammer for installing posts in dry, hard or rocky soil. Features a “spike stop” for extra support and internal fiberglass ribs for added strength.

Tip: To insert a line post into frozen or hard soil, use a power tool to drill pilot holes.

* Not all fences have all line post options.

About Positive/Negative (Pos/Neg) Nets

Is your area dry?

Conventional electrified fence systems rely on soil moisture to be effective. However, not all areas have the required moisture.

Dry soil increases resistance—a weaker, less effective pulse occurs that does not deter animals.

To overcome this, Pos/Neg nets* are wired to allow the use of every other horizontal strand as an extension of the ground terminal. Because half the strands are connected to the ground terminal or ground rod, reliance on soil moisture is reduced. A PowerLink must be purchased separately to make the secondary ground connection.

How it works…

In order to receive a shock, the animal must touch both a positive (hot) and negative (grounded) strand at the same time. This will deliver more pain to the animal than an all hot net (Pos/Pos) because moisture in the soil is not required to complete the circuit.

Pos/Neg fences can be converted to Pos/Pos in moist conditions. Remember, all fences must be kept free of vegetation.

* Not all fences have Pos/Neg options.

Line Post Spacing

“Plus” nets—6'8" spacings between built-in line posts*

Line Post Spacing

Standard nets—10' or 12' spacings between built-in line posts*

* Spacings are approximate.
Distance between built-in line posts may vary by product.

Essential Energizer Advice

  • Buy a larger energizer than necessary. When the fence pleases, most folks will buy more fence—and need additional output.
  • Use a low-impedance intermittent pulse energizer.
  • Use a fence tester to check the voltage often.
  • Use enough ground rod(s)—included with our energizer kits.
  • Don’t allow your lead acid battery to discharge below 40%.
  • Use insulated wire that is designed for electric fences.
  • Always connect the fence to an energizer, not an outlet.
  • Visit this link for answers to other common energizer questions.

Two Basic Types

  1. All-in-one Solar
    • Solar units are very portable.
    • Because they need a battery, these units are more costly to purchase and operate than plug-in units.
    • Batteries are less effective in cold temperatures (deplete faster).
    • Most farmstore solar units are too weak, in joules of output, to properly energize netting. That’s why we designed our own.
  2. Plug-in & Battery
    • Least cost to purchase and operate per joule of output.
    • Best for fences exposed to heavy vegetation.
    • Cold temperatures do not affect performance.
    • Recommended for whole-farm systems, but can be complex to install. Higher output requires more ground rods, underground cables, multiple output terminals, etc.

Braided vs. Twisted

Braiding instead of twisting the horizontals increases the frequency of metal filaments on the outside of the strand.

Braided vs. Twisted Electric Net Fences

What’s the benefit?

  1. More metal is exposed on the outside of the strand. This enables improved animal to conductor contact. The electric pulse is better able to travel from the fence and into the animal, resulting in a memorable shock.
  2. A tighter, braided weave results in fewer snags when carried or pulled through pastures, reducing frustration.
