How to Use
Use the Q-flex or Allflex® applicators to install the tags:
- The male and female tags will come to you slightly connected. You will need to tear them apart.
- Place the flag of the female tag under the metal spring finger. The printed side of the female tag will be against the jaw of the applicator. Slide the male tag over the metal pin. Be sure to push it all the way onto the pin. The printed side of the male tag will be against the other jaw of the applicator.
- Make sure the tag is correctly placed. Slowly squeeze the handles together to be sure the male pin aligns with the female opening (be careful to not put the tag together yet).
- Place the ear between the jaws of the applicator. While gripping the ear, quickly and firmly squeeze the handles together until the male tag is inserted through the ear and into the female tag.
Tag placement is critical to success! Avoid the large veins in the ear. Why? Tissue around damaged veins heals slowly—so it’s prone to infection.
Precautions
Note: We will print both sides (male and female) unless otherwise specified. Scrapie approved tags are not available in blue. Flock ID number will be imprinted on female side only unless otherwise indicated.
Inserting Tags In Cold Weather
Plastic tags (all brands) are much easier to install if they are warm. Why? As the temperature drops below freezing plastic becomes less flexible (more stiff) and forcing the male point of a tag through the female takes many more lbs. of pressure (because the female must expand).
So if you care about your hands it’s a good idea to keep the tags above freezing in very cold weather. It takes very little to do this. One method is to simply store them while tagging in a small bucket, cardboard box or tool box with a lid alongside a sealed pop bottle full of warm water. The warm water will keep both the air and the tags warmer in the container.

We have purchased eartags from Premier for the past 7 years. These tags are really disappointing. We tag some 40-60 lambs per day in the heat of lambing and with the male and female tag not being connected has been frustrating. Solved by only putting 10-20 numbers in a series in baggies, but having multiple baggies to keep tags paired...ugh. almost miss matched numbers several times. Also, I want to beable to write above the number yet the trademark imprint (on the male part) of the tag interferes makes for messy numbers. BIGGEST problem: we have had several tags(6-8) rip out of the lambs' ear. This NEVER happened with the Easy Tag or the 2xt. I do not understand why Permier messed with a good thing with getting rid of the 2 xt. That tag never let us down. These tags are way to heavy for Icelandic lambs under 6 pounds, so we use those "tiny" Qflex. The snapp tag, tho not long standing was the PERFECT temp tag for those tiny lambs. I am very diappointed and am not sure yet for next year. The saving grace and the only reason for the one star is that we can use the AllFlex tagger instead buying ANOTHER new tagger.

I love the Q-Flex tag! We have used Premier tags for years and were not always happy with the quality, but the price was right. Now, these new ones are EXCELLENT.

I like these tags. Easy to put in, easy to read. I put these on adult goats and they did scream like I was killing them, but it was over quickly, and they took a handful of pellets immediately, so it couldn't have been that bad.
I did mix up the front and back numbers on one, but I don't see that as the fault of the product as I'm the doofus that wasn't paying attention.
Be sure to seat the pin end all the way down. If you don't the pin can push through the side of the sleeve.
Only negative about this is it's hard to open them once you've clamped them down. So my goats were flinging it around and knocking themselves with the tool until I got it off them which took some force.

The only reason they get 2 stars is that if they stay in they are easier to read and apply than the easy tags. These are hard to not mix up as someone else said it is too easy to use the wrong front and back also they are enough heavier that they migrate out through the ears of our dairy goats when placed so that they are readable without grabbing the ear. We tagged 500 in July and have lost over 50 already.
