Precautions
- Use a battery tester to determine when 12V batteries need to be recharged.
- Use a 2 amp or smaller slow trickle charger or battery tender to recharge.
- Draining the battery to below 50% may damage the battery and shorten its lifespan.
Tips
Failure to maintain a sealed lead acid (SLA) battery will dramatically shorten the lifespan and/or permanently damage it.
- Immediately after recharging, allow the battery to “rest” for 45–60 minutes, then measure the voltage. A fully charged battery should have a resting voltage between 12.8V–12.6V.
- If storing batteries over the winter, periodically recharge to full at least once per month.
- Keep batteries from freezing, especially if discharged lower than 11.8V.
- Recharge frequently even if the battery is not fully discharged. Don’t allow the voltage to drop below 10.5V for an extended period. Premier’s all-in-one solar fence energizers contain advanced circuitry to recharge 12V batteries using the solar panel when exposed to direct sunlight.
- To extend battery life, use a 2 amp or less trickle charge. Repeated fast charging will reduce the capacity of the battery.
Warranty
Note: 12V SLA batteries are a rechargeable battery that if not properly and frequently recharged with a solar panel or trickle charger may result in premature degradation or failure. Proper maintenance is a requirement for these batteries to function as intended/advertised.

I purchased a fence from Premier 1 seven years ago to protect my honey bees from local wildlife (primarily bears). It has served me well over the years but the battery was pretty weak at the end of last season. So I went back to Premier 1 to get a replacement battery. The ordering process was simple and the battery arrived on my doorstep in just a few days. Just what I wanted and couldn't have been any easier.

Winters get kind of cold up here. Good to have a backup battery in case one starts to go down when the temps get into the negatives.

I always get knowledgeable advice from Premier1, so when they told me that the solar batteries do not usually last more than 2 or three years, and that I could easily test mine with a multimeter, I did just that and saw that my 2.5 year old battery was caput. Ordered a new one, it came right away, well packaged, easy to install (exact same shape and configuration as the first one so I am happy. It is delivering the desired pulse and keeping my sheep in.

I was so puzzled when my ElectroShock energizer started weakening and then failed. This unit is only on it's 3rd year, surely they last longer than that. Well they do unless your negative wiring harness is not tightly attached to the lead. I guess in all the moves it came loose and I never noticed. The loose harness caused the terminal to corrode. Ordering the new battery actually cost less than it would have cost to go to the next nearest big town to pick it up. It came in 1/2 the time I was expecting. Now it's installed correctly and I know to check the leads every few moves and make sure they are tight.

I ordered the 44 amp/hr battery and when it arrived I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was an Interstate battery. That is my battery of choice and I can’t wait to order another one.
