PoultryNet® and PoultryNet® Plus 12/48/3 Kits
Product Details
Use this netting kit to contain and control flighty birds while protecting them from unwanted predators. 48" tall.
You will need a fence energizer to electrify the net.
Recommended for active, flighty birds (e.g. Leghorns and Buttercups) and protection from large predators such as coyotes and dogs. For heavy, non-flying breeds, look to 42" PoultryNet kits, which is shorter and easier to handle.
Netting Kit includes:
- 164 ft roll of 48" PoultryNet or 100 ft roll of 48" PoultryNet Plus
- (4) 48" FiberTuff™ support posts
Complete Kit:
- 48" PoultryNet® Plus Starter Kit—Contains netting, energizer, support posts and fence & battery digital tester.
Benefits
No extra gates needed. Just turn off the energizer and pull the first post to create an opening. For added convenience, a PoultryNet® Gate can be used to provide easy access without the need to turn the energizer off.
PoultryNet “Plus” is identical to standard 48" PoultryNet, but to help with sagging, we’ve added more posts to shorten the distance between them (6'8" vs. 10'). More posts means less sag and a more versatile fence which adapts easily to curves and hills.
Double spike posts are more stable in soft soils.
Common Uses
- Contain and control the movement of chickens, ducks and other poultry on a daily or weekly basis.
- Rotate poultry to fresh grass as a food source and to reduce disease risks.
- Keep small flocks in the backyard. When managed well, chickens are an indispensable garden tool—turning pesky insects and weeds into rich compost.
- Keeps out deer, bear, raccoons, rabbits, foxes, coyotes, stray dogs and skunks.
- Can be used to contain and control livestock other than poultry, such as sheep, goats, cattle and guard dogs.
Specs
Netting kit includes:
- 100 or 164 ft roll of 48" PoultryNet or PoultryNet Plus single spike or double spike electric netting.
- 4 48" FiberTuff™ support posts.
PoultryNet 12/48/3 is a 48" electrifiable prefabricated fence. It arrives at your door as a complete roll with the single spike or double spike posts already built into the mesh/fence. Features 12 horizontals strands (11 conductive) with vertical strings placed every 3". “Plus” nets include additional line posts spaced every 6'8" to reduce sag. Add more rolls for a larger enclosure.
FiberTuff™ Posts provide additional support around curves, corners and other major directional changes. Use at end posts to help maintain tension on the fence.
Installation
See PDFs and videos above for additional installation instructions.
Precautions
Electric fence is a pain barrier, not a physical barrier. A common mistake is not electrifying it. Animals may escape or become entangled (and may die). On a % basis, entanglement is very rare, but it can and does occur. If animals are scared or starved it will not keep them in. The first time you put the animals in the net, you should be available to watch them for a while. That way if one were to get into the fence and get caught, you can turn the power off and get them loose.
Netting must be moved when tall grass covers the lower “hot” strands. The alternative? Apply a strip of herbicide to kill vegetation.
Warning! Due to risk of fire, do NOT use continuous output energizers with electric netting or electro-plastic conductors such as rope, twine or tape. Use only with a low or wide impedance intermittent pulse energizer. (Fi-Shock™ brand energizers which are sold as low impedance, continuous current output should NOT be used with electric netting.) All energizers sold on Premier’s website use an intermittent pulse and are suitable for use with electric netting.
Dry conditions and wintertime usage may reduce the effectiveness of electric fencing. Ice and heavy snow can flatten netting and thereby damage it.
Dry or frozen ground may cause posts to bend or break if inserted with force. Pilot holes may be needed. We recommend using drivable or single spike posts in hard soils. Double spike posts provide more stability when the ground is soft.
Troubleshooting
With PoultryNet, the bottom hot wire can slip off of the plastic portion of the end posts onto the metal spikes. This will cause a dead short and no energy will be on the fence. Unhook the energizer and slide the hot wire back onto the post. Reconnect the energizer to the net and test.

The first day I put this up by myself. I'm a pretty strong woman, but still it really is easier with two people. It was a bit saggy, but it was good enough to let a few of the girls try it out. They really enjoyed helping themselves to fresh greens. I thought I was going to need to buy more additional support posts, but really I just needed an extra pair of hands to help me install the fencing correctly.
I did run the lawn mower around to clear the area where the fence would be first. It is really helpful to watch the video and then put it up with two people, unless you're a stronger person than I am.. The second day my husband helped and then we added bird netting on top. I don't want to clip any of the girl's wings. Also, I didn't want anything to be able to fly or drop in.
I'm going to keep the fence in the same location for about 6 weeks giving the girls time to scratch, eat, and fertilize the area for planting.
Buying the "kit" was the easiest way for me. I bought the 164 ft, but for my use the 100 ft really would have been enough (I should have listened to my husband on that one), but we each have different needs.
I would recommend this product. It really is working out well. I was weighing the pros and cons regarding purchasing this, or building a chicken tractor or. just letting the girls completely free range.... I decided with the time and money I would spend to build something and then have to deal with the fact that our ground isn't level so a chicken tractor could have gaps, and be heavier than this fence. I'm happy with the purchase, and would do it again. The girls are happy, too! I also purchased the intellShock PRS I-25.

We have a couple of these and they are easy to use and relatively easy to move.
Robert J from Middle Tennessee
This is an awesome fence. Easy to move, easy to setup. The extra poles are great for shoring up sagging sections if you use it in an irregular shape. Keeps the chickens in and the predators out.
Lyra N from Missouri
I love this product! Easy to move and has so far kept out the cats, dogs, raccoons, and possums. Most of the time it keeps the chickens in too (I have a few who seem a bit wild and are able to fly over it). Great for pasture rotation.
James H from Ohio
What a great product. We bought it for our 50, soon to be 100, layers and it works like a charm. The nice thing is that my boys ages 9-15 can handle the charger and two sections of fence all themselves freeing me to work on other chores. I'd highly recommend this fence and plan on getting more as needed.
